Nisio Isin. His work can be highly subversive of common tropes/cliches. Although more striking to me is the way he can use them so freely without being caged in or hampered by them regardless of his being subversive.

Katanagatari and Monogatari, I assume also Medaka Box but I don't know much about it.

Well I was just using that as a picture, but yes I meant the whole series.

Katanagatari isnt really tropy though. At least not in the same way Monogatari is. It's more of a homage to older battle-of-the-week series.

Write in order which of the monogatari series come first. I'm trying to watch the series.

I'm wondering how long it will take for anime shows to use the boundary line. Meaning it's an anime series that is in the middle of a cliché and originality. Do I have to wait for years until there is an anime series like that? Will that ever be an anime like that? What about anime shows that have both a cliché and originality? What are your views on this?

Here's an example where posters have to learn to make a close acquaintance with Our Friend Context.
If you'd provided some show, or genre, that you felt did it right or wrong, we'd know what you were talking about.

Since it's so vague, all I could think of was the shows that started the cliche's, and how differently they did them back when they weren't cliche's.
Like Tenchi starting the harem series but being better than most harems, or Urusei Yatsura starting the "Magical girl in the closet" comedies, but going way into insanity, the original Sailor Moons starting the "Magical girl team" genre but being more endearingly klutzy than cute, or Azumanga Daioh starting the "Slice of oddball schoolgirl life" comedy with jokes you do not see coming.

Maybe if the shows you're watching are "too cliche'd", it could be the shows you're watching.
There, that's MY official guess of what the Sam Scratch you were talking about, was I close?

Bakemonogatari comes first. But dont watch it on CR. Its missing the last few episodes and for some god-forsaken reason its only in SD quality and is really blurry.

I should complain to CR support about it actually...

Not sure why, streams getting better over time isn't magically retroactive or I'd be complaining about Shamanic Princess.

Forgot it was 480p though, may as well darkside it for those fancy blu-rays then move on to the rest.

Definitely, I think it's the only harem-ish anime that I've really enjoyed.

Starting with Bakemonogatari, Nisemonogatari, Monogatari second season and so on...
