Post Reply Why I purely hate windows 10 and Need assistance someone help me.

Okay so! This forum will not only serve as a way to bash windows 10 but also help me if possible.

So I'm fine with windows 10 even tho its a piece of a garbage everyone hates we get it.

However there is a bigger reason to me hating windows 10.

It's that it is so terrible it won't install.

I've tried every method to get this damn windows 10 OS installed and yet no luck... It is really the only thing that makes me hate windows 10...

So tell me why the hell you hate windows 10 and if you think you can assist me in fixing this that'd be great.

Then I didn't get the invite to the party.

Still... I need help solving this issue so... If anyone knows how to help with it then that'd be nice...

If this gets moved to another area I have a feeling I won't be able to get help for quite some time...

I'm running Linux Mint. It seems to work fine as an alternative to Win 10 (and its free and easy to try). There are quite a few Linux games available now, but many of the Windows only ones actually play fine on Linux via Wine (PlayOnLinux is a user friendly wrapper for wine: its worked great with my steam games). So far all the visual novels I have tried work fine, as well as some 3d games.

These days full screen flash video in Chromium works fine on Linux, so no issues with your streaming either.

Its not hassle free, but in the worst case at least its legal to reverse engineer it to fix things

I have been curious to try out linux but I'm kinda scared a lot of things/files won't work...

My one question is: Can you use customization on the menus? Such as changing the menus appearances.

On Linux you literally can customize anything (you have the full source code after-all). Really the question is now hard/easy it it.

Most Linux distributions will ship with one or more desktop environments, but you can install others: this means you can literally swap out pretty much the entire graphical interface for a completely different one. Additional all the popular desktop environments are pretty configurable. Personally though I haven't messed with them very much: the default configuration for Linux Mint left me pretty happy.

If most of what you do involves browsing as opposed to downloads you could upgrade to a Chromebook. I talked my mother into getting one a few years ago and she now loves it more than she ever did her windows products. She'll be off her iPhone and over to Android once I can get the time to show them how much better talking to an Android phone is.

Meh. I'm actually one of those people holed up in the bunker with the others who don't think Windows 10 is all that bad. Not all of them, but a lot of the issues people have with its privacy violations really just stem from them being too fucking lazy to check out settings and actually, you know, personalize their personal computer. Granted, some of it's pretty sneaky, but that's unfortunately just kind of the age we live in now ever since smartphones really took off. At least they don't actually punish you for figuring out how to outmaneuver them like certain other companies that could be mentioned.

BUT…as for OP's issue, I don't think you've really provided enough information for anyone to help you. For example, we don't even know if you're upgrading or installing fresh from a USB or optical drive. I guess you said you've tried "every method", but that can't be literally true if it's still not working. How are you trying to install it, and what are the specific problems you're encountering?

As for Linux, it's actually pretty easy to give it a try on the same machine you have a Windows OS on without getting rid of the latter, if you just want to see if it's right for you. http://www.pcworld.com/article/252939/installing_windows_and_linux_on_the_same_computer.html

Chromium is the fully open source variant of Google Chrome, which for various trademark legal reasons can't have the same name despite being pretty much the same thing (Its mainly missing the Google branding, and distributed by other people). Mint comes with Firefox by default which also works pretty well, but its easy to install Chromium (I just mentioned it instead of Firefox since I use it more).

I personally use and recommend Linux Mint, http://www.linuxmint.com/about.php, but you should look around at some of the alternatives to get a sense for whats out there (there are tons of choices!). If you want to have much hope of being a successful Linux user, you will unfortunately have to get used to searching around online for things. Mint is nice since its pretty easy to use (the default install has most of what most people want working), and has a large user community to help out when you have problems.

Just make sure your data is backed up, so you can casually reinstall as many times as you want until you have something you like and seems to work. Don't be surprised if you break your install a few times while playing with it: reinstall is quick an easy (often easier than fixing what ever you broke) as long as you are careful to have your data stored elsewhere/backed up.

I've tried downloading it from the GWX didn't work instead kept freezing.

Tried downloading it from the media tool.

Froze multiple times.

Tried doing a clean boot media tool and GWX method both unsuccessful.

Tried doing an entire virus scan found some things but still unsuccessful

Tried looking for updates got an error labelled "80080005" which I've tried every method to fix except for a few might help to try those not sure.

This is all the methods I've encountered.

Also this is on windows 7.

As Nyanotic pointed out, we already have a discussion thread about Windows 10.

For advice regarding installing it, the Advice, Info, Recommendations forum is more appropriate, so I've moved this thread there.
