Post Reply Did your high school have a student council?

Yes, but it was as useless as dirt. So I don't really see the point of having one. Not the students themselves that are useless, mind you, I mean the point of having a student council in high schools.

I see them as vain as popularity polls on online forums targeting regular no-life members, when those kids do it to get attention. Student councils are exactly the same thing. It subconsciously boosts a student's ego for no good reason.

I'm sure there are schools where it works, but from what I've seen, the majority of schools don't need this garbage.

We had a system of prefects and there was a head prefect. They were elected by the teachers not the students. They helped keep order or got to be bossy

There was the student association and the Class Boards at my high school so that'd be the closest. They weren't the Absurdly Powerful Student Council like in anime since some of the committees were technically their own club as classified by the school while Newspaper and Yearbook operated as an honors course so they have different powers

When I went to a public high school we had a student council, but I don't think they did very much. It was a art schools with selective enrollment so I don't think there was a big focus or very many things the student council could of had a say in or put together. When I switched to a private high school there weren't any student councils. There were a few meetings regarding trips and whatnot, since it was such a small school those meetings would involve everyone. Would have loved to have actually gone to a school where the student council was an import part of the school.

there was a student group appointed by votes that called themselves a council.
Their job was to introduce the principle during each assembly to the only people that already knew who that was.

Yes... Maybe... I don't know.

It certainly wasn't like anime, where everyone goes around in awe/respect of the student council president.

We didn't have a disciplinary committee that beat the living shit out of rule breakers either.

Anime is so much more interesting than real life.
