When it comes to dealing with the growing threat of North Korea, Republican frontrunner Donald Trump has a simple solution: Force China to take care of it.

Fresh off of a victory in the New Hampshire primary, Trump discussed North Korea’s nuclear threat on CBS This Morning and said the U.S. has enough power over China to make them act against dictator Kim Jong Un.

“China has tremendous power over North Korea and they take our money so we have power over China,” Trump said. “I would get China to make that guy disappear in one form or another very quickly.”

When asked if he meant Kim should be assassinated, Trump shrugged and replied: “Well you know, I’ve heard of worse things, frankly.”

The billionaire real estate mogul alleged China has “absolute control” over Pyongyang and its leader, who shouldn’t be underestimated.

“I mean this guy is a bad dude and don’t underestimate him. Any guy who can take over from his father with all those generals and everybody else that probably wanted the position … this is not someone to be underestimating.”

Trump praised Kim in the past for his cutthroat ability to rise to power in North Korea, admitting “it’s pretty amazing when you think about it.”

The communist nation has increased its weapons testing in the last two months. In January, North Korea completed its fourth nuclear test, claiming it had detonated a hydrogen bomb — despite wide skepticism from experts. Trump reacted by calling Kim a “madman playing around with nukes.”

Last week, the North launched a “satellite” into space that Japan and the U.S. both believe was a covert long-range ballistic missile test. The tests took place despite U.N. sanctions banning North Korea from doing so.

China is North Korea’s last major ally and despite voting to sanction Pyongyang over its recent nuclear tests, officials have said it will only go so far. Beijing has instead repeatedly called for stability on the Korean peninsula.

But Trump is convinced the way to make China budge on North Korea is to do so through trade.

“I would force the Chinese to do it economically,” he said. “I’d say you gotta do it. I would be very tough with them on trade. I’m going to stop them anyway to a certain extent, but maybe I’d stop them more forcefully.”
Trump alsopointed a finger at the nuclear deal the U.S. and other world powers recently signed with Iran. He said the U.S. should’ve forced Iran, an ally of North Korea, to end its partnership.

“Why didn’t we put something in there when we’re making a deal and we’re giving them $150 billion,” he asked. “Why didn’t (John) Kerry say, ‘look you’ve got to help us out, we have a problem: North Korea’?”

Trump is right about this. China should deal with North Korea because no one else really can. China enjoys the fact that the West shivers when NK saber rattles.

Except when we laugh ourselves silly at it:

(Sorry, it was the only YouTube left of the classic 4/3/13 monologue, what happened?)

Trump is trying to make Isolationism look "cool" by playing his usual xenophobia card, but someone with a little more experience--like, not his supporters, and, more to the point, like current China--would know what to pay attention to and what not to.

Some times I think that Donald Trump is just running for President because he was bored and wanted to cause some waves in the Republican party.

Trump may be insane and a jackass, but we do need to get China to stop letting North Korea act like an unruly child.

Yeah.... just a shame they have nothing the US wants to take, or we'd have already invaded North Korea.

Joking.

Kind of.

The reason we can't deal with NK ourselves is because of china. They need to take care of their little bratty step child

His comments get more and more stupid each time.

How is he going to force China to do that when most of the world is dependent on China's cheap labour and child labour/slavery?
Why would China want to ruin its rep with NK when its living standards are not any better than NK? And China also has the mentality of NK's, they like communism.

If we're not careful, she could become the First Lady. Yeezy 2020 is kinda scary.

Exactly: You don't "force" China to do anything, because, while they may think they occasionally "need" Western markets to see them as a new contemporary country experimenting with open markets, should any moment come down to break that illusion, the gates will slam down with a crash. Until such time as they decide they need to open them again for their own benefit.
If they feel they don't need to notice you, they won't--As far as they're concerned, it's their world, and any country that does business with them only lives in it. That may not be true, but as long as that's what the Committee tells the country, that's what they believe, and that's what they expect the rest of the world to believe.
Donald J. Trump, meet the FIRST country that ever built a wall to keep the rest of the world out. Six hundred years ago.

Anyone thinking they can lean on China and give them a taste of the Jersey Way is only going to get a big fat taste of the Tianenmen Square Way.
I already know that much, and I have neither a skyscraper or a presidential campaign.
