Is there an Anime you need to watch twice to understand? Like one you really need to think about to understand with a great story to it?

I don't watch twice to understand, although sometimes I find new stuff and meanings in certain animes when I rewatch them.

Not typically. But sometimes I find new things when I re-watch animes that I watched a long time ago.

Hmm. Hard to say, I think I understand most of the anime I've seen.

I guess I'll go with the Kara no Kyoukai movies. Even though incredibly awesome, they can also be pretty damn confusing at a lot of points.

I also feel like I got a lot out of rewatching Madoka Magica. But then again, I was pretty high the first time I saw it.

Boogiepop Phantom is a brilliantly written puzzle series, and the mysteries are challenging to put it lightly.

I'd honestly be amazed if someone managed to work it all out in two viewings. Possible but very tough.

/mekakucity-actors A lot of people have panned it for that reason, but I really enjoyed it.

Spoilers in case you want to go in with absolutely no clues at all...

I literally don't.

Haven't watched it in about a year though and I've got it on DVD now, should give it a fourth run.

I typically understand what's going on but I do occasionally rewatch the same anime. I only usually do the rewatch with english dubs though.

So the first time I watch it's typically simulcast and in Japanese with subs and I'll get the gist of what's going on and if I really liked it I'll watch it again in English and then I'll grasp the full situation and emotions of characters and the plot..

Punchline - never re-watched it though. I doubt that I'll understand the ending the second time

I bet my left bollock that no one understood Serial Experiments Lain on the first go through.
Partly because there's tons of different interpretations of the show. And partly because the show is unnecessarily obtuse about everything.

To a lesser extent though there's Durarara x2/ x2 Ten. But this is mostly because the writing is kinda sloppy.
