An iPhone bug has arisen, as they do from time to time, that will render your device completely unusable. In this case if you set its clock to January 1, 1970, it’s brick city.

I can only imagine what people are doing to the devices in the apple stores.

Unix, not linux. Also, that is probably what's causing it(unix time below 0).

Pretty sure Mac OS is unix-based. Don't know about iOS, although I do suspect the problems are related.

The fastest way to brick an Iphone is to turn it on.

The exact time till brick may vary from person to person, but it is guaranteed to work eventually.

Or rather, not work lol.

It is. Its based of coding from Mac OSX which is based off the coding of a variant version of Unix.

Good to know, I guess. I don't use any of of those things, so I'm not sure if I'll ever use the information, but I guess that pretty much solves the case at hand, which is nice.

For the sake of accuracy, I would just note that setting the date to 1/1/70 would probably be much faster than just turning it on repeatedly, but good joke anyway. I laughed. And then thought, wait a minute... that's not actually even close to the fastest way to brick an iphone. So, I guess, sorry for being a Debby Downer. I just thought, "what if someone came here, wanting to brick an iphone, and saw this post? You may ruin their life for a year or 2. They'll just be sitting there, turning their phone on and off like an idiot, when they could just set they clock back, or smash it with a hammer, or anything really. This is terrible advice."

When did I lose the capacity to take joy in simple jokes? My life is a sham.

Why would anyone set their clocks back to 1970? Unless they have a need to fulfil their time-travelling iPhone fantasy...
