Ideally, yes. Tri is a continuation of the original series and you will likely enjoy it more knowing the characters and their relationships from the series prior. I would recommend watching seasons 1 and 2 of the original Digimon first. They cover the characters in Tri. The seasons after 2 are pretty much a different cast and aren't necessary to view Tri.

Definitely watch Adventure and Adventure 02 first.

Though, fair warning: I don't remember who said it, but someone summed up the ideal prerequisites for watching tri as 'watching Digimon Adventure... 15 years ago'. Tri so far is basically a giant nostalgia-fest for people who watched the original as children, so it might not really work if you've only just getting into Digimon now. The original is firmly a children's show, while tri is aimed at your typical anime audience, and plays hard on the nostalgia you're supposed to have for watching the old show as a kid.

That said, give Adventure a go and see if you like it. It IS a very good children's show that has a nostalgic following for a reason. And try to watch the original subbed if you can, the dub is very much a product of it's time and place (that place being Fox Kids in the early 2000s)
