Just curious coz I'm a closet fanfiction writer who cares way too much about what my friends and family would say. I feel like it's more culturally acceptable to read fanfiction than write it but either way I want to know what you think

Aren't you curious what your friends and family would say? More than you worry? I don't see any reason to be closeted about writing fanfiction, it's part of the proud literary tradition. I've written a few smutty ones and a friend happened to read it (such is life when you have one screen name...) and he didn't say anything about it, past that he 'enjoyed' certain scenes. Point is, if you enjoy doing it I don't see a reason to be afraid of what people will think.

I don't read or write fan fiction, so I guess people don't know.

I've written some explicit lemon fan fiction myself, and my friends have read them. Even a GF of mine has read a couple of them and found them to be very hot. I don't put them online though.

Doesn't "closet" mean that you do it in secret. So making a post in a thread technically voids what you just said.... You make a lot of "smart' posts don't you ^_^

Why do i get the feeling that by "fanfic" everyone seems to be referring to taking something like your favorite TV show and then making someone have sex with someone else i've never done that but i have continued a series to a ending that satisfied all of the questions that i had at the end. Although when i was younger i did make naruto and hinata fall in love but it wasn't anything pervy. people know that i write it but they dont care

I read FF on occasion for certain anime I like. Provides a nice twist to plot sometimes. The ideas people come up with in their stories can be interesting sometimes as well.

I don't see why writing it should be any worse than reading it though. (not that it's bad to begin with)

It's a hobby. Do I advertise the fanfiction part?

Nah. People wouldn't get it anyway and what I write fanfic for nowadays isn't really that known. I just advertise it by request or on certain sites.

My very first girlfriend wrote a very graphic fanfic about Thor and Loki having a baby.
Needless to say I don't ever want to read fanfic again.
