It is that way w/every race. If you are Cambodian, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese and half white you'll be treated well. But if you are half black or some other race that would make your skin darker than you will be treated like crap. Racist exists every where. I've always been criticized for being darker in color and I'm not black just dark tan.

Yeah, it's a shame how stupid people can get about these things.

It all roots from the color white being viewed as good, and the color black being viewed as evil. But what's even dumber, is that we have gotten used to this "black and white" thing, and white people are actually peach, and blacks are actually brown/dark brown.

The people back then couldn't even get their damn colors right.

Hello there. I am a teenager (now living in CA). I am half Japanese and half Black. When I was living in Japan for 10 years, I've had mixed treatments (good and bad) while i was living there. It seems as if they treat kids who are mixed with a white race better (I'm just speculating) bbut please prove me wrong. I love Japan, but when I go there I feel really insecure. Please tell me your thoughts.

Join the club i`m mixed as hell black , Japanese , Dominican , Navajo..... hell when I was living in the jap didn't seem much like a difference. Infact quite the opposite of what you think of.

[edit to below] even though i am part black I still look Filipino...regardless I like my yellow skin so join the club.

I'm part white and black and yeah sure I guess i have yellow skin so nobody knows that's I'm NOT spanish but when I do tell tham what i am they always judge me and treat me differently. Like my black friends wouldn't crack any white jokes infront of me and visa versa...So being discrimated happens everywhere in the world...But I think in Asia it's more intense...

I'm half Black and half Cuban, and many of my Cuban family members have refused contact with us because of it. It's not as big of a deal in America, since there are less Cubans here than Blacks. But I still encounter the jokes though. Like when I used to say I was half Cuban, people would say "Row row row your boat". Either that, or some people would actually be shocked. They would say "You don't look like it", so I just reply with "So how do Cubans look to you?". That shuts them up. Because half of the Cuban race is my complexion.

It all roots from fear, misunderstanding, and ignorance. I wont let the stereotypes bother me.

Same treatment here. The only difference is the fact that as far as I know I'm purely Dominican. But there are people everyday who are always looking at me and saying stuff like "This blackanese chick aint shit" or if I tell them I'm Dominican they'll be like "Why aren't you dark skinned" or things like "Dumb in a can"

I've looked back on how much it hurt back then because of the fact that I grew up not having people who actually understood where I came from. Most of the time because I wasn't born in the U.S I would always be considered an Immigrant but this country is made up of Immigrants (Unless you are of native american descent)

Racism isn't something that can just disappear, but it is something we could all try to understand and better ourselves from.

You got "row row row your boat"? I got "Banana boat" >.>

Hmmmm......I think i'd rather take on the name calling, because ive had blades pulled on me and been in fights...i dont believe in fighting back less my life is on the line..so ive had lotta bruises. Growing up in an all white neighborhood wasnt the best experience but its had its good memories i guess...Its not like i'd ever reflect on it thinking of what i could change because its made me who i am and got me where i am. as well as being on this forum to meet so many ppl. I pity those who dont understand....Some of them have actually come up to me years later to apologize for their past doings but not all..but it gives u a sense of happiness or something that some ppl are actually able to understand and step up. A change that will forever be in society, but has improved greatly since the past...its all we can hope for. I dont think racism can be gotten rid of as even we are racist ourselves....its just the level that racism is at...just like anything else there are things that can be taken lightly and others that are taken seriously.

thnx everyone for ur opinions. they really help My mom comes from a very rich family (my grandpa owns Yamato transport) so she was brought up really well. When my dad and my mom eloped, my grandparents were furious and almost disowned my mom. But thankfully they began to accept my dad b/c hes really a good person and smart too (there really was no problem since my parents still love eachother to death).
I remember I had this friend in elementary who was pure Japanese and we were getting along well until one day my friend basically stopped talking to me. My mom told me that her mom said "I dont want my daughter to be around your mixed daughter." Since then it seemed as if everyone (even the teacher) was always looking at me differently so I my grandpa enrolled me into an international school nearby (problem is i didnt speak a word of english! lol) i had a lot of fun there but i still wished i was treated differently at my old school.

Some of this stuff makes me soo sad...and then very very angry. Both of my best friends are mixed (one's half-Asian, the other's black/white) and both of them get crap for it even though they're the coolest people I know! Gah! It makes you almost loose faith in the world...
But there are good people out there. Like most of the people in this forum. Kudos to those who can look on the inside where it actually COUNTS!

Well, evil is a point of view.

Some of those who find it evil, may be evil themselves.

oh man seriously!! ive never met anyone who was half black and jap, i mean except for me and this one little girl but i didn't really meet her!oh that's so cool, do you speak japanese!

oh and the indirect racism thing is so true! i forgot who was saying it but...
my MOM is so racist against darker skinned people, which makes no sense because my dad is black.. she's always like, oh yea so you can't get married to a black guy or the baby will come out too dark, and all these dumb comments, it really makes no sense. i love her and all but she can be a bit hypocritical
