For those who are working for someone else right now,

What do you think of your company possibly scanning the interwebs for anything and everything you might post there?

On one hand I suppose they don't want their employees posting stuff like "my job is shite" or "dis company is shite" but one kinda wonders if any minor thing would get you the boot, and which exactly those minor things are minor and which aren't... according to them... at the moment.

I don't do the social media. What's an interweb? All they're gonna find is a Crunchyroll account

They're not going to find your CR account unless your first name is Zavin and your last name is Royalheart

If it's posted where anyone can see it with identifying information then I don't really have a problem with it.
If it's trying get you to friend them (with or without your knowledge) or worse demanding login credentials, that's pretty creepy and probably should reconsider working for them unless you are desperate or don't care.

I don't see this as a bad thing. If you're posting things up in the internet,
you better expect that the whole world will see it.

I forget what the end result was (although I'd hope they got smacked upside the head), but I do seem to remember that there was a court battle some time ago due to employers demanding login access (as in, your actual username and password) to things like your Facebook account.

As for scanning the interwebs in general.. Well, I know my employer does that.

On an unrelated note, I love my job and deserve a raise.

This is old news and common practice. Just keep shit private and it's not a big deal. Or you know... don't use that stupid social media crap in the first place.

If someone is dumb enough to post shit that could reflect on them badly and NOT keep it private/unrelated to themselves, then they get whatever is coming to them.

You should see what we do when we hire people in...

And this is exactly why I don't use social media except for my account on here. Not really interested in most of it anyways. As for a workplace going into social media to see what an employee has posted, I don't think that that's right. Yes, it may be on the internet for others to see, but it's something that's done in their own time in their private life. Work life and private life should be kept separate.

I would congratulate them if they 1) find me and 2) find anything they could use against me... The effort alone would be quite admirable.

oh yes please! XP
but some of it by them searching their stuff isn't allways great.
If they are going to get stuck on 1 comment or suggestion or what they may have searched for then I would think they have some problems, more so as an leader/the person who would do the interview etc.

I don't think its too bad since they mostly only check things like Facebook and I never even touch that :p
