Then again if you have a government job you usually couldn't get laid off that easily?

Huuuuh, I get laid all of the time! The moment I walk in the government building the ladies were all over me! -Grins- -You could tell he is lying though his teeth- PeripheralVisionary? Whooo that? I'm not part of PeripheralVisionary's fan club! XD

Hmm, funny that you mention it because both of my sister used to work for the DA Attorney and they both got laid off after working there for two years! XD Nothing wrong with them, just that lot of people got laid off from working in the government building..

Its usually very stressful job! Most of the time they're always in foul mood. Someone told me that one lady used to work at FBI and the FBI Agents are always in bad mood due to stressful, making lot of mistake in paper work, they often yell lot at others.

Outside what is said in a professional capacity (that is, on a company's behalf) I can't see what any particular detail of an individual's personal life is any of their business whatsoever.

That's why I never use my last name on social media. Rookie mistake.

Well maybe they just want to feel at ease in knowing that their employees are ... decent or something.

Have you heard of the Chinese system to gauge "social reliability"? Takes into account factors such as how many diapers per month you buy and your personal medical records, it does. All without your consent, of course. A glimpse into the future, friend. A mere "patriot act" away someday.

Can't consider private if people post publicly for anyone to see.

Have seen lots of people get into trouble on social media because they are so stupid.

It's not just employers.

The federal government checks your social media as well, and not just Facebook.

It's a thing of the times with everyone pretty much posting their entire lives on social media.
Realistically, you can't stop employers from doing this even if a law passes where they aren't allowed to deny you for what they see on you Facebook/Twitter/Catstagram/whatever.

You are however in complete control of what they can find about you on the Internet.

My Facebook is, apart from my prfile picture, banner and some general work information, completely shut off from whoever hasn't befriended me.
They are however completely free to look at my LinkedIn and apart from forums I don't really actively use any other social media.

I would tell them what I do in my own time is none of their business.
