Addressing the Purpose

The thing I want to do is let you all know what we have been working on. I want you all know that we do have/had plans that we want to get done and that we aren't just trying to "practice" as some people may be worried about. But also what I want you guys to know is what my intentions were in starting this specific recruitment group. The whole idea I had was get a group of new people to help put some life back into the group because admittedly we were in a rut before we created the group. We only had two writers and our artists were still trying to improve themselves, so we weren't exactly ready to start jamming out a manga (at least not the gigantic project I had in mind). Then I had a thought, an idea. There has to be plenty of other people who felt like they were missing something that kept them finishing a project as well. So I wanted to shift focus a little bit and reach out to them, hoping that with new recruits, we could fill their gaps and they could fill our gaps.

First starting the group, I wanted to round the people up and secure them together. Have people get to know one another so we could find out how to work with each others as individuals then when it seemed like we found our stride in communication and process (as well as have something in process from the group itself). Then we would get people into the actual forum (internet willing) where we have a lot of the progress we made before hand and continue on wards on current projects. The intention was/is to get actual stuff done in a proficient manner.

For those who are skeptical on our process, I am going to admit to you now (because I believe in absolute honesty) we are still figuring this out. We haven't worked with such a big group in a while and we want it so badly not to end up like the big group we were born out of. So, we are still trying to think out how we are going to process this stuff. So, I ask in advance that you keep an open mind and that you give us a little mercy as it were, while we figure this out. Because we don't exactly want control, we just want to make sure we do things right. As well, we want to give you just as much strength in any project that comes up. I always worked by a principle of equality in this group. No hierarchy. I want you all to have a say. That is the important part!

Addressing a SLIGHTLY Sore Spot

Now, as for the manga thing, there was a little confusion last night. Some of you had no problems with the project idea at all and some of you had concerns that I completely understand (as I see one of you actually might've been a part of the group we broke off from and in turn are hesitant to follow any which-ol' path. We will get to process in a moment) I don't disagree with the project as a whole for I think it would be interesting to get started and see what comes of it. But I regret that it gave you all the wrong idea of our process, which we had a long discussion about last night and I think our official process is a lot more concrete. But we do want to experiment with the process as well at times. But mainly this one was/is to see how the group will manage to pull together and honestly I think we learned a lot through the disagreements we faced whether little or big.

Something to keep in mind

Now with that said, I am going to say something that is not fun to hear but must be said, something inevitable. People will get frustrated. A misunderstanding from the inside will happen, people are complex, we are not perfect, and I just want you all to know that I will always be open to the idea that I am wrong. I just want you to also understand that with that fact being universal, we have to be calm if something doesn't go right. I hope we can our perception clear when that happens and ask more questions than anything to get to the bottom of where the network/system itself seems to be falting. Because a group is not a single circle but a network of thoughts chaotically trying to communicate with themselves. If something doesn't seem right, we need to fix the network whether between us or anyone else and not try to fight it to flow. I hope this makes sense. The point I am getting at is I hope that acknowledging this as an inevitability and that we can avoid all the repeating pitfalls of arguing in a way that never fixes anything and only continues to agitate the problem and instead learn a way to work through it calmly. It is harder said than done but if we all can agree to do so. There is a lot of stuff we can avoid off the bat. (BUT I SAY THIS WITH A LOT OF SUPPOSEDLY's AT THE MOMENT!)

Addressing the Process

Let me get to what I am really trying to get after and that is that we have a point we want to get you guys to and we have a process. We will use this method on the actual forum when we are dead set on projects. Something I want us to keep in mind. My process is something I keep referring to as the net method. Lay down a net, over time we catch fish instead of trying to time it to pull out one by one. Say we have a project, (lets call it Proj1) On proj1 where we have a plot idea in line, we let the writers brain storm, throwing in ideas until we have almost too many. We pull the net up and start throwing out the ideas that don't fit or we simply don't want. Then we take what is left, arrange them and then specific writer or two outline it then if it is really long (like Decline which I will address in a moment) we assign a chapter to a writer. That writer writes it out and passes it along to the others and they will edit what might need to be edited in an open peer edit matter. This is very much how a writer's room works. If a writer then has a later chapter and doesn't have to write for a while, that leaves him open to write a chapter of a different project if we decide to have more than one. The initial net method makes it so we can throw in ideas without having to have a set meeting, that is the great thing about a forum that chat can't really do. For writers, this is literally how it is done for TV.

As for artists, the idea right now is to get to know your style so we can decide who would be best suited where so you can be brought onto a project that is more for your style. But I am not an artist at all, so I will let the artists talk that over.

What Were We Doing Before?

What did we originally have planned? It is called Decline and it is the driving force behind our group. We have so much planned for this project that it is going to take the longest out of anything else we do. This is my baby and the idea is we will focus on other projects more actively and we will chip away at this over time. But it is the umbrella project which I hope to release onto the world as a magnum opus. If you wanted a project that we would be tethered to and known for specifically? This is it.

I won't go to far into detail about the plot. But it is a dystopian story where Earth is crumbling and the people on it are forced into what are called hyper cities as their apathy grows and their enthusiasm dwindles. This is going to have everything. Political thrills, in depth stories, existential crisis, survival crisis, aliens, robots, etc. etc. I have put so much into this project myself that I will get it done if it is the last thing I do, whether I have a group or not. But right now it has been put on the back burner so I can focus on the recruiting because I want the group to flourish and I think we have gained some AWESOMELY talented people here and I want to keep them and help them. And I am hoping this over sized omni-post will convince you how driven and open I am to making this work.

With all that said...

I leave this group in everyone else's hand. That is the faith I am willing to put into you all. I don't necessarily want a discussion of how we continue from here. I feel like soon everything will be to the point we all want it to be at. I just ask for a little patience and allowance. But I do want you to communicate your thoughts as you let go of preconceived notions and are open minded to everything. Not sure if I made what I wanted to clear but I hope this puts everyone on the same level. Thank you for your time.

Glad to see the transparency here, although I personally never really had a problem with how things were being run since the beginning.

Glad you feel that way. I also want to say that I don't want people think that something is "Wrong" because I posted this. This post was coming either way. I just finally found the right motivation to do so. Though I really should have started this group with the idea of a process lol. Oh well, now we are there! XD
