Trump approves this message.

Okay--I know it's off-topic but let's get this one buried once and for all, because my landlord's complaining about too many footprints running screaming up the wall to the ceiling:

When a candidate says "I approve this message" he is NOT--now, let's be very careful, and make sure what we understand by NOT--saying "Wasn't it a cool ad? I think it's neat that I'm on TV! "
It's not "Approve" = "Like", it's "Approve" = "Certify": He is, in fact, complying with recent federal law that says that a candidate must appear in, and "sign" with his vocal statement, any ad that his own campaign committee produces, to verify that the ad does actually reflect the platform of the candidate--And was not ghost-produced by some crazy third-party PAC committee that may or may not have been hired by the candidate to do loose-cannon ads that he can use to attack the opposition and still safely distance himself from.
(Which explains why there have been fewer "attack" ads, now that the candidate has to put his face on them, and those who do still produce campaign-produced attack ads.......would.)

So, if, for example, the Trump campaign were to produce an ad where the Pope tells Osama Bin Laden and Speedy Gonzalez to go rape Girl Scouts--whose cookies homeless people buy with their Food Stamps--if it later met with, gasp, censure in the press, without the Approval law, the Don could just as easily brush it off and say "What, was that one of mine? Never heard of it--Musta been one of my supporters, y'know how overexcited they get. I'll find out who did it and put a hit on...er, fire his family, 'cause I'm a good responsible candidate, and I don't want the media to misunderstand me."
If, however, Trump appears in the ad himself, and says "I approve this message", he is making a legally contractual statement in front of mass witnesses that he has seen the ad and has no problem with allowing it for broadcast. And then we can all say "Yep, big surprise... "

Remember that report about a month ago made by a GOP commentator and Trump opponent (forgot his name, so please fill me in) who compared Trump supporters to otakus who fap to anime? The demonstrator could have done this as a reference to that mans comments.

Oh yes, I remember that now. I also can't remember the guy's name unfortunately. But if that is the case then the man is just making him seem right

Proves otaku's don't support Trump by... dressing as an otaku and going to a Donald Trump rally. Okay...

Rick Wilson, who pointed out the popularity of Trump's policies on online race-hate forums, noticed many of the posters were using anime/Naruto/etc. avatars, and got confused.
Which resulted in some misinterpretation when he accused Trump supporters of being, quote, "neo-Nazis and childless single men who masturbate to anime", apparently believing the the two demographics overlapped.

(sigh)...SOMEHOW , this all got blown up and mythologized in the fanboy press that "Donald Trump said he hates anime fans!"
Which is...wrong in at least three ways that immediately spring to mind, and probably more if one has time to work on it.

I doubt that was the cause of it--anybody with the name of Bootymath sounds like a stunt-crasher--but it at least keeps the discussion on topic.

Was that the guy Trump was referring to when he said he wanted to punch the protester in the face? Or was that a different speech?

What, you mean have them laugh the guy out of the room, and get the crowd to pretend that anyone who says anything bad about him is an idiot?

Yeah, bet you would.

Sure, why not? I just get a kick out of the things he says and gets away with. As much as I don't like anything he says, I anticipate the next time he does say something and how people will still support him. Rest assured I don't like Trump at all, but I get some sick enjoyment out of watching this circus of a campaign.

Well, I can't share the sentiment that you LIKE the way "people will support him", as it smacks too much of how audiences used to be hooked on Jerry Springer, even knowing that the whole thing was probably a fake setup to watch the trailer-park couple get into a bleeped-out brawl, and Springer would cue that smug-superior "What'd I tell ya, it's my crazy world! " grin on the audience.
At which point the audience would--yes--chant their love for "Jer-RY! Jer-RY!" Not because they admired what he was doing for journalism, but because they knew that nobody else loved them so much to be so squalid for their enjoyment.
(And that was before he brought in the dirty puppets and the Reverend-Jim guy.)

Sort of like when every third Maury Povich episode was a drag-queen contest, and then it just turned into paternity-DNA tests.
And let's not even get into Wally George, that's too Reagan-era.
