20 years and my team keeps evolving (not in the literal sense... they're all at the top of their evolutionary chain)

It's been years since I've watched the anime or read the manga, but I still play the games. Looking forward to these:

I don't buy the whole they are running out of ideas line with Pokemon ok trubbish has a rubbish name no pun intended but everyone quickly and conveniently forgets the original 150 had a rat a pigeon and jinx what ever the hell that was if those were added now everyone would slag off Pokemon and it's lack of original content.

At least the original 151 made an effort to resemble animals. Now we have a bell, keys, ice cream, a sword, a bunch of Pokemon that look like they came from Home Depot, and one that's literally a pile of garbage.

So, 20 years of Pokemon, surprised the franchise has made it this far really. After all, in those 20 years I've found the Pokemon games have become increasingly stuck in a rut, more content to provide semi-annual release with new Pokemon rather than offer any real innovations in gameplay. As it stands, the current crop of Pokemon games are just 3D pixels over the same 2D gameplay mechanics that's existed since the GameBoy days. In this respect Pokemon is like the V-Pet equivalent of FIFA or Madden, the same game as last year only with a new team roster.

In contrast, I'm getting a lot of enjoyment out of playing Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth on my PS4:

Cyber Sleuth is amazing; beautiful visuals, solid gameplay and with a standalone story to rival any season of the Digimon anime. This new Digimon game is bold and ambitious, aimed at adult fans of the Digimon franchise, able to depict a dark cyberpunk style adventure that can stand shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Persona as a great JRPG in its own right. As such, now more than ever, with the arrival of Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, I get the sense that Pokemon is being left in the past; a generation's worth of innovations and sophisticated audience tastes that is simply passing Pokemon by.

And perhaps the most damn convoluted gameplay mechanics I've ever seen and I play Korean MMOs.

I've been playing since 2001. I thought I would have given up by now, but I always get the latest main series game. I came to the conclusion that I will never stop playing these games. I actually completed the national dex for the first time in my life last year around this time. All 720 pokemon.

As opposed to a pile of sludge, a cloud of gas, a cloud of poison gas and a ball of vines?
