So, I am far from an expert in anime, and I need advice on what to watch. I really loved classics like Ghost in the shell, and akira. Iv watched all of bleach, and I can really get into that type of show as well. I want something darker and mature (as in gritty violent, not hardcore sex) I really liked Ergo Proxy, Witch Hunter Robin, and and Black Lagoon. Right now I am on a "gaming kick" Being a fan of tabletop gaming and video games I have just recently watched Sword art online 1 and two, KONOSUBA, and Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon. Will some of you guys that are more well versed in a variety of anime suggest something new to watch based on this sampling of what I have liked so far? Id appreciate it.

Log Horizon is pretty good if you're looking for another gaming anime set in an MMO world. Log Horizon is a bit different though, whereas it still has people trying to adjust to being transported into an MMO (like Sword Art), this anime focuses on more on the political, economical, and cultural sides of it, instead of SAO which tried to be the ultimate gamer's fantasy. Also, Log Horizon involves actually being magically/mysteriously transported inside of an MMO world, instead of the Virtual Reality setting that SAO went with. I guess you could compare it to KONOSUBA in that regard, but with much less fanservice.

Also, it might not be to your liking, but if you want a good comedy to check out, and aren't intimidated by a 300+ episode series or adult/toilet humour, I highly recommend checking out Gintama. I consider this to be one of the greatest anime ever made, and I just can't help posting this whenever someone says they're looking for something new to get into, lol. It takes a few episodes before it starts to get really good, though. Apologies if it's not to your tastes.

/jin-roh is a movie with significant Mamoru Oshii influences CR recently got to stream via Discotek.

Ergo Proxy: I'd check out Psycho-Pass, it's cyberpunk that also overlaps with Ghost in the Shell. There's also Texhnolyze for something more meta, and Wolf's Rain features a post-apocalyptic quest similar to the one in Ergo Proxy. Witch Hunter Robin I haven't seen, also haven't seen most of what MAL recommends for it so can't say.

Black Lagoon: Recently Gangsta. There are also the OVAs Black Lagoon: Roberta's Blood Trail. Another show with the underworld [arms] smuggler vibes is Jormungand. Baccano! has a similar cast of eccentric violent lunatics set in 1930s America on a train. Canaan also features female Matrix-esque gunslingers and it looks nice.

If you particularly like Revy's devil-may-care-ness then Hellsing: Ultimate can be worth a shot for Alucard.

SAO/KonoSuba/Danmachi: Overlord, Druaga, Log Horizon, and divisively Grimgar (currently airing). Problem Children Are Coming From Another World, Aren't They? is a possibility along with No Game No Life. The Devil Is A Part-Timer reverses the comedy formula pulling fantasy characters into our world to make ends meet.

Erased is a current series which is particularly gritty.
School Live on first look is a very cute show, but that is only a cover for some very dark themes.

Other shows I'd suggest are

Claymore,
Neon Genesis Evangelion,
Darker Than Black,
Knights of Sidonia

Since a lot of the good ones had been mentioned on posts before me, I'll just throw in these others:

Kara no Kyoukai
Eden of the East series
Death Parade
Paranoia Agent
Danganronpa: The Animation

And in case you're in the mood for an anime movie, check Summer Wars.
