It's not censorship. Nobody is suggesting that the title "master" should be disallowed or made illegal, even at Harvard. If people want to keep using the term "master" nobody will stop them. This is one private organization's decision to change an archaic job title. It is a very small and minor issue.

The obsession these days is not with political correctness. It is with outrage. Everyone wants to be outraged and tell you all about it, all the time.

You see it with the so called "social justice warriors" who whine about anything remotely controversial.

And you see it with the anti-PC brigade who respond with "the country is fucked!", "censorship is destroying everything!", "what has the world come to?", "kids these days are hopeless", "everyone is too soft". Blah blah blah. All that melodramatic bullshit sounds the same to me.

Its social censorship. People are suggesting "you can't use that word". That is exactly what happened here. Not making it illegal, but effectively removing it from a part of our lexicon. This is not a "private organization's decision" so much as it is a private organization's use of words being restricted by the pressure of a radical minority.

However, I think you are stretching the extent of this "outrage" a little to far. I don't really think anybody in this thread is outraged. A little miffed maybe, but not outrage. Your reaction to it seems to be the most extreme of all ironically...

I disagree that it is in any way censorship. Nobody is saying you can't use the word. We are just going in circles with that argument though, and neither of us has anything to add to the argument except our opinion.

I am just annoyed at all these threads that take a minor issue and make a big deal about it. The OP's response to this article was

America's future is so fucked, the youth of today can't even handle the word master.

Isn't that hyperbolic and absurd? These types of threads/comments have been popping up all over lately. I may have used some harsh language and a rough tone (I had a few drinks last night) but my point was one of moderation. We should stop throwing fits every time something happens in the world that we don't agree with.

Our speech is less restricted now than at any time in history. But the language you are allowed to use, and what is socially acceptable will continue to change. The planet will keep spinning, and life will go on undisturbed.

and things would go absurd if they had such "freedom"...

yes keep changing so nobody got control over what to say or use -__- great.. its like a whole new planet... by every second it changes even in the dictonary so anyone learning english you gotta wait 10 years before a stable period to learn the "real" meaning behind each and every word (when it can be used, what it means and when etc).

lmao these bitches going to ivies aren't even smart anymore, they're all just stupidly entitled rich twits

higher education my ass, ivy unis suffer the most due to student 'social justice' and mass entitlement clauses
i feel bad for the normal students attending ivies on actual academic accomplishment

not to say that ivy universities didn't have this problem previously (my dad went to one), but the whiny brats were farther and fewer between at one point. now you can't go five minutes without running into an offended little lug who tries to drag everyone down with them to support a "cause" that is nothing but self serving... smh smh.

i'm just going to restate my point in every thread related to sjws on uni campuses i come across.

YOU ARE ATTENDING SCHOOL FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES, SOCIALIZATION AND POLITICS, OR SOCIOPOLITICAL MATTERS, COME SECOND TO ACADEMICS. YOU ARE A LOWLY STUDENT.

UNLESS YOUR PROFESSOR, DEAN, STAFFMEMBER, FELLOW PEER, ETC, IS DOING SOMETHING ILLICIT BY LAW, AND NOT YOUR FALSELY CRAFTED LAWS OF POLITICAL CORRECTNESS, THEN YOU HAVE NO DAMN RIGHT TO COMPLAIN SO MUCH. YOU ARE PAYING FOR THIS.

IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE ATTENDING YOUR SCHOOL BECAUSE OF SOMETHING THAT MOST WOULD DECLARE TO BE MINOR, THEN PLEASE LEAVE THE UNIVERSITY IN QUESTION TO A STUDENT WHO IS ACTUALLY GOING TO UTILIZE THAT EDUCATION INSTEAD OF FOCUSING ON UNIMPORTANT AND TRIVIAL FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS.

YOU ARE AT SCHOOL TO RECEIVE. AN. EDUCATION. NOT TO GRIPE ABOUT THE SCHOOL'S TITLES FOR ITS STAFFMEMBERS OR THE FACT THAT YOUR PROFESSOR RIGHTFULLY CALLED YOU OUT FOR YOUR OWN LAZY WORKMANSHIP. NOT EVERYTHING IS AN ISSUE PERTAINING TO RACE OR YOUR LGBTQWERTY BRIGADE. THERE, POINT OVER. I SAID IT. DONE.

I disagree with nearly everything. I believe some students have certain rights when it comes to how they want their schooling to be, and of course the school provides legal avenues to do that. Even if it is something minor, students shouldn't have the right to complain of grievances with their fellow students? Bullcrap. Rights on certain aspects of schooling is something every freshmen to senior deserve. It is essentially democracy within our college system. Democracy to complain over every little shit that bothers you. Within reasonable expression your frustrations and all that. In my opinion, they are completely within right to complain. Are their opinions not important? Are they not allowed to voice grievances?

This essentially boils down to the right to complain, although I admit, some restrictions do apply. Repeated requests on trivial matters are not look kindly down upon from my experience.

I'm talking about complaining about PC stuff, more than anything. Maybe I was a bit harsh. The point is that you're there to LEARN, and if you're such a wuss that you cannot handle the content school provides, finding it "triggering" to the point where apparently some unis have coddled this by installing, I SHIT YOU NOT, ROOMS to cater to these ninnies... then perhaps you shouldn't be enrolled there in the first place.

I think these kids need to grow maturity wise, sprout a backbone. the majority of complaints are revolving around the realm of modern overly PC 'social justice' that's just entitled twits whining about whatever they can whine about. of course you see it happening more often at ivy league schools due to the high amount of rich kids, who have likely never heard, maybe rarely heard the term 'no' in their lives, but it plagues unis everywhere. It's really annoying.

That I agree on, I essentially misread your argument and I apologize.

Not that I have a problem with this or disagree, but Harvard for the most part has always notoriously discriminated against whites.
