I'm a pretty curious person and I'm not shy at all so I would probably go up to them and hear the person out.

Where is the option for "Assume they are on drugs and go around them."

Cause like 99% of the time, that's the case if an adult is crying along the edge of the sidewalk in DC.

It depends on whether or not I know the person. Most of the time I do tend to lend an ear and hear them out though.

No shortage of nice people here I see. Of course, this all may pan out differently IRL.

I don't care if I don't even know them. I would ask them what's wrong, listen to them/hear them out, maybe give some advice on how to deal with their problems, and if I had some money, if it was one of my friends, I would take them to go get some ice cream/whatever they want that will make them feel better.

The vast majority of the time I see someone crying, it's a burned out druggie outside the subway station.

Keep walking and DO NOT MAKE EYE CONTACT.

There have been way too many random stabbings/murders on the subway in the past year by people hopped up on who knows what.

Why would you do anything for a person who is crying? They'll stop when they get dehydrated.
