This looks alright from the previews. Anyone know if it's worth picking up?

It just got licensed today

I've enjoyed what I've read so far. I would definitely recommend it.

Awesome. Shame I have to wait until the end of the year to read it but hopefully it'll be worth it. It sounds pretty funny.

It leans pretty heavily on anime fantasy villain tropes, including the ecchi stuff. The cast is pretty flat in characterization, but big enough to distract from it. Overall a pretty decent bit of mindless entertainment from what I've read so far.

If you like your protagonists to be incredibly overpowered rulers of a harem and the other characters to be bland and practically characterless this is for you!

Otherwise, you should probably pass.

Wait so what kind of genre is this manga even in? Upon seeing the OP's post I thought it was like a battle shounen or something but your comment makes it sound like a Dan Machi type thing and the wiki description calls it a "survival fantasy" I'll still probably check it out seeing as your post seems to be the only one I've seen that's all that negative so it's probably serviceable at worst but I'm really not sure what to expect now lol.

So this series is finally being localised and I flipped through a few pages at Chapters today. I can't comment on anything plot related since I didn't have time to pay attention to that but the art was definitely above average in my opinion. There's a good amount of detail and faces are well expressive. The art's biggest failure is the character designs. There's an old trick to figuring out how good your character is designed by determining whether or not they could be recognised by silhouette alone, and I honestly had trouble discerning them when fully drawn. I'm told that the characters physically evolve and start looking much more distinct pretty quick though, so that could just apply to this part of the story. I still might check it out.

The silhouettes seem intentionally similar at the beginning, and they do evolve pretty radically later on.

There isn't all that much that stands out from this series and a number of other 'reincarnated into another world' genre light novel adaptations, other than the MC following the role of monster straight.

Yeah, looking into it more it seems competent, but not very impressive. The fights are underwhelming and the characters are generic. I've been told that Shield Hero is a much better series in this genre, so I'll probably get to that before I read Re:Monster (If I ever even do that)

Shield Hero has characters who are more memorable, though the plot is about as straightfoward as you can get after an early twist.

For the genre Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken runs a very similar premise to RE:Monster with stronger characters and a clearer plot. And a protagonist who's less of a psychopath.

Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka? is also manages an interesting, if very game centric, take on the genre.
