I'm a hafu and I bathed with my Mom until I was 7 or 8. She'd wash my hair and my back then get out of the tub to let me play for a while. I think it is a cultural thing. My kids, I bathed with them up to age two and then I bathed them up to four. After that they wanted to bathe by themselves. Americans are too hung up on nudity. They like to find things morally wrong in the most innocent of things. Now if I wanted to bathe with my 22 year old, that would be creepy. But when we're down in Little Tokyo, I will sometimes go to the bath house with my two sons. My two daughters will go to the women's side of course. It's very relaxing.

Nothing wrong with it, but as others have said I think a good cut off point is about 4.

Can I smack the people who take issue with this?

I took baths with my dad and sisters. Even my aunt. The problem here is people dirty minds. I have seen a lot of my family members naked but that doesn't make it sexual. Seriously people need to stop with associating being naked with people you know as being sexual.
I wonder if these people have ever been to a Nude Beach? Because parent do bring their kids there, and the kids do get naked too.

There is no right answer. You'll get so many different answers to this based on the person and that persons culture...

This. But I do personally think it also depends on the type of bath you're taking.

Privately, in my personal opinion, a parent should stop bathing with their child as soon as they learn how to use the bath alone safely and are able to properly clean and dry themselves.

As for public baths, this completely depends on the embarrassment level of your child, as posted by dotsforlife, in many cultures it is completely acceptible to bathe in public areas and it's also perfectly normal for parents to bring their children to these establishments.

I never did it but I don't find it strange. As the child grows I imagine it will only be appropriate with relatives of the same sex, but still acceptable.

Of course you don't find it weird, woman ruined by nii- san.

I wasn't ever allowed to bathe with my parents.
I think a bath when they are 1-3 is ok but after that you should just run their bath and scrub em down or be showing them how to do it themselves.

I am father of two, I also wash their butts when they poop. On the fun side, I make their breakfast, lunch and diner, take them to kindergarten, watch anime together (Furusato Saisei: Nihon no Mukashibanashi), I comb my daughter´s hair. At summer my son and daughter usually bath/play together. It is easier to bath together because you usually end up all wet :)

Being independent visual artist gives me more time to spend with my kids and take care of them. Not all parents have that opportunity.

I think its weird myself. I dont recal ever having baths with my parents and if i had kids i wouldn't bath with them.
I do remember having baths with my brother i think? and even some freinds when young kids but with an adult i think that would be strange.
I dunno though, we live in a era where you cant even take photos of your own kids in public anymore so maybe that has an effect?

I don't recall my parent get in the bath tub with me, but I do recall my Mother watching me, while reading newpapers and making sure I wash my hair.. I'm so wild I always bring Hulk in the Bath Tub haha, and get water everywhere! XD

My father never spend time with us (son and daughters) Only spend time with his Beers! -_-;

Edit: Uhh just in case you guys/ladies are imaging me as a adult! >.> it was when I was 5 or 7 year old. I think I started taking bath without supervision at age 9 or 10.. -shrugs-

While I never took showers with either of my daughters, I don't find anything wrong with the idea at that age.

I take baths with my imoutos all the time. There's nothing wrong with washing each others backs.

True, even though i dont know your sisters age. But i think that's more normal(siblings), especially both same gender and not a grown adult with a kid.

I am 8 years older than my sister so we never bathed together lol.

Iam guessing when i was a little baby my parents prolly bathed with me, but no recollection.

^ He has no imoutos. He's delusional.

If I ever bathed with my parents it was way before I was old enough to remember. I do, however, remember taking baths with my brother... and I have a feeling maybe with my sister? Again, this was around an age where my memories of childhood began, so I imagine I was pretty young.

Whatever the case, there's really nothing wrong with bathing with your child, especially if they're young. Hell, I'd say that's pretty normal. I think people need to stop treating each other as potential paedophiles, and sex offenders, just waiting to strike.

i feel this is a cultural thing. taking a bath is not sexual, just as going swimming is not sexual. it's the scenario that makes it sexual or not. personally i wouldn't.
