It's your location. I lived in San Bernardino for 4 years. My ex-husband and I were actually shocked when we got our cell phones that you guys have the option to be notified of a car chase on your cells. It was literally ridiculous. People were driving in circles waving at the helicopters and doing stupid stunts while having slow speed chases. I've lived in Michigan, Mississippi, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia and never seen anything like the car chase culture in Los Angeles. We might get coverage of a car chase once in a blue moon in other parts of the country, but usually it's over with before you know it's going on and only rarely is it filmed.

Seems to me this was one of the chases that happened during my time out there although someone has voiced over this video. https://youtu.be/tG4MHQcGavI

I couldn't believe that every local tv channel out there would cut to footage of the car chase no matter what else was on. I think they'd have cut off the President of the USA if a car chase occured.

DC can get scary at times.

Look at all the shootings/stabbings on the metro.

LoL

Same crowd that rides the X2, so don't hold your breath.
Had a girl, higher than a kite, attack me on the X2 last year, after I told her to back off the old lady she was harassing

That was kind of the point I was making. LOL! But what can you expect from a city that kept re-electing the crack smoking, prostitute visiting, idiot they now want to memorialize? https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/dc-politics/is-it-time-for-a-new-dc-statue--of-the-mayor-for-life/2015/08/28/e64b1fac-476a-11e5-846d-02792f854297_story.html

We seem to have gotten slightly off topic. As to the OP question about why the news glorifies the car chases - it's because people are interested and not only watch them but pay for special cell phone apps that will notify them when one occurs so they can turn on their TV and watch it. People out there in LA will deliberately run from the cops just to get their 15 minutes of fame like the guy in the purple cape I posted the link to earlier.

I saw a discussion between some of my friends on another forum about whether or not Mad Max should've gotten so many Oscars, because in one person's opinion it was "just a 2 hour long car chase." Car chase movies are fun. The granddaddy of car chases in Bullitt with Steve McQueen is still the best in my opinion, although the one in Ronin is a close second. The Blues Brothers just had fun with the car chases in the mall and under the Chicago L. Smokey and the Bandit took the car chases to the next level with Jackie Gleason "In hot pursuit" all the way from Texas to Georgia, followed by two sequels.

All I ever get on my phone are weather alerts and maybe once a year an amber alert.
Maybe I should move to LA lol
