I was thinking, why is it that there are girls that are upset and ponder why they are single or want affection that they are not getting, but then when a boy or someone hits on them, or shows interest, they get uncomfortable, and usually turn him down, and then go back to moping.

Why does that happen? o.o

Because she's not that into you.

Girls don't know what they want, sometimes I don't know what I want. All I know is that I do all the flirting and if I don't flirt with you then I have no interest in you, so I usually turn down people's advances

Maybe you're not the one she wants

I think the same thing too, I see these beautiful girls and I mean beautiful yet they are not taken but want to be. I mean if you don't want to be single then go out and look.

I'm not exactly saying this on my behalf but I feel like I've seen this alot of times especially with other people.

I mean it probably happened to me, but I was thinking how common it is.

the guys are not her type.

just because they're lonely, doesn't mean they have to accept anybody that gives them a bit of attention. though I know there are people who are desperate and willingly accept any love coming their way, but that's really a recipe for disaster and scamming traps.

The key word for me in this phrase was "uncomfortable" - this could be for a variety of reasons, but it is clearly a sign that the particular person showing interest isn't who she wants or she's at the very least very cautious that what she wants in the moment is to be comforted and listened to - not necessarily approached by the very guy she is confiding in who may be more of a friend.

I have a theory that any room with at least four X chromosomes in it will quickly experience drama.

one male and one female = FINE!
up to three males = FINE!

one female and two males = the males will compete for the female
two females = instant drama
four males = there will eventually be a fight over some nonsensical reason

Because they don't just want any guy that shows interest in them.

I'm not disagreeing, but perhaps the reason there are so many lonely people in the world is because, as a society, we are no longer willing to take a chance with relationships.

A second problem is the apparent expectation that relationships wind up in the bedroom after just a couple of dates, and I don't blame women for wanting to avoid that.

In other cases, if they accept just about anybody's advances, they'll be called a slutbag.

On another note, this usually depends on the girl. As one possible reason, she could be really picky or have ridiculously high standards, or she could be looking for something trivial like a fairy tale prince. Or, she could be holding on to someone in her heart like an unrequited/one-sided love and won't let go.

But c'mon, it would be the same for some guys, I hear it all the time. Their ideal girl is some sort of goddess-like creature, so that's what they go after, only to find out the personality is jacked up or some other major flaw that sinks their ship. If they keep chasing after elusive girls, the ones that get overlooked will assume they have no chance and not even try. It could be another reason why the girl is still single.

And as a girl, I find that forward advances are VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. It's pretty much a catcall or an impulsive attempt at a pickup game.

Your average girl is looking for affection (which is probably the gentle, tender heart-fluttering type mush), not someone to smack ass in public.

And usually guys that hit on girls like it's normal and a good thing are usually seen as greasy and gross. If you're going to show interest, approach with caution and ask questions.
