what the fuck. the kid is nearly blind. he only said it cuz the cops wouldn't leave him alone until he said something. ive heard of this happening a lot where cops interrogate you until you say you did it even if you didn't

Is our desire to be right so steadfast that we'd rather imprison a wrongfully convicted man than admit we're wrong and set him free?

Yep. False confessions are a very real thing, from very questionable interrogation methods.

Yeah, sure, the actual murderer is terrible and all, but (and I can't believe I'm going to say this), I have more respect for his confessing to the crimes than I do for the police and prosecutors who fucked that kid over. I would be much more satisfied seeing the police officers who interrogated the boy, and told him he could go home if he just told them something, and the prosecutors who told the actual culprit not to testify, to be harshly punished. Hell, I feel inclined to say that deserves a life sentence... maybe. I mean, when we're dealing with taking away a person's freedom for decades, there's no excuse for cutting corners, and treating a serious criminal case as nothing more than a potential paycheck.

Needs a better system so they would atleast deal with this better from both cop and jury?
Atleast would love to beat many police officers for using illogical stuff to gain or go agianst the law -__- when civilans knows more about rights/laws then the officer does we have a problem atleast if that happends often and its not the civilans fault.

Oh. I hope the people responsible for the kid sentence get hit by a lighting strike and die. They are making a mockery of the justice system and abusing it.They deserve life for what they did to the kid. The real murderer has a soul while those pigs don't even resemble a human being. How can a murderer have the balls to own up to what he did, to save somebody else from jail for a crime he committed. But the people in charge are unable to own up to their mistake?
They are garbage in human form. No, they are the maggot underneath the garbage! They" re cowards incapable of owning to their own mistakes. Even Hell wouldn’t accept them! Half-ass lawyers without the slightest bit of self-respect! They don’t even know what their jobs are! They don’t even know the meaning of shame. That’s what makes them trash compared to the murderer! Such level of narrow-mindedness is disgusting. I can’t stand that kind of incompetence. The murderer may be a pathetic piece of shit. But they themselves"are nothing but dog shit."

You completely said what I wanted to say. Seriously this kid is freaking BLIND. I really am super upset about this and this makes me not like Law enforcement even more. I know there's good cops out there but so much bad and cutting corners is way beyond ridiculous.

He'll be 53 when he gets out on parole. Must suck to know that his life is screwed.

Yes, tad odd that we're reading a screenshot of this story. but:
http://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/detroit-city/2015/04/15/lawyers-want-overturn-conviction-four-murders-hit-man/25822635/

It sounds like they have him in solitary confinement too. What the actual fuck?

The prosecutors can't admit they farked this up because the impending lawsuit is going to be huge and rightfully so.

Wow, this is a really tragic thing. I feel for the kid. Hope they do get him out and prosecute the prosecutes.

This reminds me of Japan's crazy high conviction rate and how it is on the back of many false confessions due to being under duress from the interrogators and just wanting it to end.

From the link Runec posted.

Prosecutors said they entered the plea deal to save taxpayers money on a lengthy trial.

It is possible to find this so disgusting that it's funny?
