Take out the screaming crap they call vocals and you got yourself a genre!

LOL!

Ha, if we did that, it would just be instrumental. The vocals add to the atmosphere of the music. Dont like it then dont listen.

They don't add to any atmosphere, in a lot of metal that incorporates neoclassical style things into most of there music, it isn't related to "RAWRWRWRAWRAWRWRWAWRWRARWIMNOTSCARYLULZRAWRWRAWERW" at all, it would be great stuff without that to, and it would be even better with REAL vocals, not just find the guy with the deepest voice and have him talk gibberish.

REAL vocals

No such thing. And Gibberish? Really? Im sorry...Please go ahead and listen to What a horrible night to have a Curse by black dahlia murder or New Millenium Cyanide Christ by Meshuggah, read the lyrics and tell me its not gibberish. You've proven you dont really listen to the lyrics at all, you dont even look em up.

Such narrowminded thoughts must make it hard to understand why a person would Growl or grunt rather than sing like a pre pubescent 12 year old boy crying out that his 11 year old girlfriend dumped him.

Even though I mostly don't like bands that only scream, unless the music is absolutely breathtaking, I have to disagree here. Growling is part of death metal. That's the genre. ^^ (and that's why I can't listen to clear death or black metal for that part)

Growls are real vocals. Too lazy to repeat, so I'll copypasta from my previous post:

That'e because people don't understand why instrumentation is very important in Death Metal and why there's growling. People just think growling/screaming = untalented and only to look cool which is far from the truth. I can have growling vocals as a replacement for Blink-182, but the music still does not make it Death Metal. The point of Death Metal = be aggressive, brutal, kick ass, in-your-face, loud and fun. Growls/screams add to the aggressive atmosphere and is meant to be taken as another instrument, like the guitar or drums. I wasn't used to the growling stuff at first, but what got me addicted to Death Metal was the instrumentations. Slowly I developed a desire for deeper, gutteral growls. With more exposure, you'll get used to it eventually.

I love everything about Death Metal, EXPECT the growling, it doesn't add to the atmosphere, it just makes me laugh and say "THEY CALL THAT SINGING HAHAHAHA" Honestly, even I can do that.

I don't like bands who scream all the friggin' time which is what death metal is so no... but I do like screaming in the songs, just not a lot. Atreyu, Dir en Grey, Maximum the Hormone, Bullet for my valentine, A7X and Linkin Park are some bands I like but they don't scream the whole damn time!

Opeth, In Mourning and Swallow The Sun would like to have a word with you.

What are they going to do scream at me? lol! Anyways, everybody has their own taste in music and I just don't like bands who scream all the time, as a matter of fact is hard to even considered it music for me. A friend of mine likes the devil wears prada and I only like one of their songs and its because the guitarist sings on it. I'm not saying that they are not talented because they really are but for the most part they all sound the same to me. Everybody has their opinions and I respect yours if you like death metal but I just prefer alternative rock and thrash metal.

These bands don't scream all the time even though they cover the Death Metal spectrum. Like this:

All I'm saying is, stereotyping is dumb.

I admit my mistakes when I'm wrong. That was actually a pretty sweet song.

Here's another song by the same guys, but more Death Metal. You can see Mikael's excellent vocals.

I've at least heard of Opeth before but I'm not talking about bands who are death metal but also cover some other type of music, I'm talking about bands who are totally 100% death metal scream hardcore all the time that I don't like. Any band that can change from a total hardcore song to a song as slow and soft as acoustic foo fighters has my respect. I know what you are trying to get me to understand.

I've actually heard many super hardcore death metal bands like august burns red, Himsa, devildriver and others but I just cannot, does not matter how many times I listen to them, get over the horrible gargling screaming because its just not good to me to hear a dude scream his ass off to make the song more aggressive. Some songs are aggressive enough just with the instruments. For example, many of the old heavy metal bands had songs that were heavy without the rough vocals. Yes, I do understand that growling and screaming is used as a an instrument because that is every vocalists instrument of choice but then again some bands use it the wrong way. They do not use it to express what they are feeling or to enhance the experience or for whatever else it might be used, some just use it to scream just because...

It is considered a form of singing. Actually, it's harder than singing to be honest. Everyone thinks it's piss easy, but they often do it the wrong way and it can damage your voice permanently. Learning to growl helps in breath control and increasing stamina, which helps a lot in clean singing. It involves pushing air from your diaphragm out and loosening your vocal chords and I can tell you this: it is tough. People can keep stereotyping shit without knowing how hard it is to produce a growl perfectly, it just shows how ignorant people can be.

Those aren't Death Metal bands. Death Metal = bands like Death, Cynic, Decapitated, .etc
You have to keep in mind that what keeps Death Metal evolving is to be the heaviest, more original, more rifftastic and more brutal than those who came before you. They want to keep pushing the boundaries of music. Well, it is true that now many bands have growls and screams but that is because their predecessors have basically made it as a standard must-have. Many will not grow accustomed to growls, yet many will seek for more. It's just a matter of knowledgable preference.
