wouldn't say HxH is the best, but agian its hard to keep trace of whats been expired or has restrictions.

But then agian its something else if you mean a serie that is "perfect".

I've watched about maybe 60% of what's on crunchyoll, and pretty much 100% of what did not look retarded to me.
I'm a 31 year old who prefers more realistic characters and dialogue, fantasy, sci-fi, slice of life, romance and horror animes. When characters act like idiots, I hate it.

Gintama!!!! most hilarious thing, anime, or non-anime, i have ever seen, and at times, very deep, with great action. this anime is in a class of its own, but you have to watch at least 3 or 4 episodes. the first 2 episodes are originals so not as good and i believe the 3rd starts where the manga starts.

Space Brothers - astronaut slice of life. almost every episode made me inspired or want to cry, usually both. for drama, this anime is also in a class of its own.

GURREN LAGANN!!!! - the most insane anime ever, until at least, Trigger followed up with another winner, Kill La Kill.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica (watch at least 3 eps, it's not what it seems)
Erased (simulcast) - gripping as shit!
Shirobako - required watching for anime fans, shows how anime is made and it has a good storyline actually!
Your Lie in April - slice of life/romance/music - a little slow but man, it's good
My Little Monster - hilarious romance
Another - creepiest anime ever
Nisekoi - hilarious and sweet harem
Nagi no Asukara / Lull in the Sea - romance
Time of Eve - interesting android story
Toradora - funny and sweet romance
House of Five Leaves- awesome and realistic samurai story
Inferno Cop - it's stupid, but it's the best kind of stupid.
Kaasan mOm's life - look past the art style to a really sweet and realistic family story with lots of funny moments

Non Non Biyori - CUTE slice of life, requires patience!
Blue Exorcist - great school battle anime
Galaxy Express 1999 - one of the classics
Fist of the North star movie - classic, it's just cool, i'm sorry.
Dusk Maiden of Amnesia - interesting ghost romance
Shin Sekia Yori - from the new world - very interesting and challenging world.

School Days (if you watch it for its purpose, bastardization of harem anime, it's quite good)
Fairy Tail -battle anime (has its moments)
World Trigger - battle anime (has its moments)
Oreshura - if you like harem anime, can't go wrong here.
Monthly Girls Nozaki Kun - funny and cute
Tari Tari - deep and cute slice of life
Parasyte - interesting premise, thoughtful
Plastic Memories - purposefully sad anime!
Sword Art Online - first season was amazing, 2nd season retarded, gun season was decent.
Golden Time - cute harem.
Sabagebu! - Survival Game Club! – i dont even know how to describe this one, it has some hilarious moments.
Pandora Hearts - cool fantasy anime with some weird moments
No Game No Life - great anime for gamers

not on this site, but my absolute favorite animes are Honey and Clover, and NANA. (Along with GINTAMA). Check them out too

(Uh, that's "999", the name of the engine, not the dreary paint-drying British show.)

And before we get wrapped up in current anime, don't forget that Sherlock Hound--required backstory for all Studio Ghibli fans--is also streaming the US dub version, and the similarly proto-Miyazaki Lupin III Pt. 2 is airing the sub version so you don't have to watch the obnoxious US dub version.
Another one of the vintage classics to go with GE999.

Cardcaptor Sakura, subbed or accurately-dubbed, is on the required anime-fan syllabus too, and a generation ago we wouldn't even have to mention it.

(And not sure why the first post was reported, but it does belong on the Anime board.)

The best anime honestly only depends on your preferences and Crunchyroll luckily has something for everybody.

Hunter X Hunter = the best action/adventure anime of all time, at least for me, along with Fullmetal Alchemist
JoJo´s Bizarre Adventure = a must watch for any shonen fan
Gintama = one of the best comedy anime out there with some serious moments that are incredibly well done
Erased = a very recent thriller anime with a very interesting premise and characters that are very easy to like
Konosuba = a fantasy comedy that is actually incredibly funny and thankfully uses well written comedy instead on relying on fanservice like many other shows do

And personally I´m not a big fan of slice of life or magical school harems but in case you like them Crunchyroll has a lot of options. Anyway these are my personal recommendations I hope this helps you even a little bit

Glad you got a lot of great suggestions! However, the next time you want recommendations please don't ask in the "General Discussion" forum. Instead, post your request in the Advice, Info, Recommendations forum (where I've now moved this).

What kind of shows do you like? Shounen? Rom/Com? Harem? Action? etc.

I think of all the anime on CR the "best" is probably...

The Pet Girl of Sakurasou

But, why I like it might not mean squat to you.
