The explanation for this show is that Sentai is salty as hell about the CR/FUNi partnership and CR entering the home video realm officially. So they are plopping their shows on Anime Strike(though this season it was basically plop their shows on everything that wasn't CR/FUNi, because they put their licenses this season on Anime Strike, Hulu, and The Anime Network(which they own incidentally)).

As for Bahamut that is most likely a case of outbidding. But yeah if Sentai licenses a show going forward, be prepared for it to go to Strike.

So basically Sentai is just being stupid... Why would think they'd be getting back at CR/Funi by putting their content behind a massive paywall that hardly anyone pays for?

They're probably trying to strike (heh) some kind of partnership with Amazon like they seemed to be trying with Hulu a couple years ago before Hulu dropped out of anime for the most part. On one hand, I don't want Crunchyroll to have a monopoly so I welcome a new simulcasting service but the on the other, I want it to be well thought out and not "Hey anime is getting popular! Let's grab a bunch of exclusives, including sequels and spin-offs to shows other sites had, and charge a double paywall to access them!".

The explanation for this show is that Sentai is salty as hell about the CR/FUNi partnership and CR entering the home video realm officially. Well historically Sentai had always licensed their shows to Crunchyroll, along with Aniplex and TV Toyko, and Funimation rarely collaborated (I can think of a few: Attack on Titan, Yona etc, but generally little overlap).

I think the game-changer was the Crunchyroll/Kadokawa partnership, whereby Crunchyroll joined the production committee of the Kadokawa shows. I'd argue that Funimation traded exiting the sub business, against Crunchyroll blocking them out of Kadokawa shows. With Funimation picking up the physical distribution of Crunchyroll dubs, and some horse trading behind closed doors, they probably did okay out of the partnership.

But that leaves Sentai pretty much in third place, and Crunchyroll eating their lunch. So I can understand why they'd be pissed, and look to show what little they have left on other networks.
