Really what would be the point other than expressing your dislike of them .

Like most people have said, it is very disrespectful. The most important thing of theirs is gone- their life. And you still have yours, you don't have any right to talk trash about them, they're gone.

Could be superstition but it also boils down to the whole "not being able to defend themselves" thing. If you had that much of a problem with someone when he/she was alive, you really should have said something then.

Also, unless the person was truly despicable, most people would rather recall fond memories and celebrate life. I don't think there's too many who want to just keep brooding and harping on all the bad shit that was literally buried with the person.

The dead aren't around to defend themselves.

One of my few self rules. I don't hold a hatred for anyone who is deceased nor do I in any circumstance speak ill of them.

I don't understand the argument of it being disrespectful. If they were terrible people, why should the be respected, anyway? It's not like anyone would complain if you were to speak ill of Hitler. Not that I speak ill of dead people who were terrible, though. They're dead so there's no real point.

If someone did something terrible when alive, I see no reason to act as if they didn't.
