They are lazy so facebook is convenient for them, they don't want to go out of there way to actually call you or visit, and they think you deleted your account because of some drama that you don't want to tell them about or that you don't want to talk to them.

I did the same as OP with similar results. In the end, I reactivated my Facebook account but never touch it. Essentially, it ended up being the same as if I deactivated my Facebook anyway.

I've never deleted my Facebook account, and to be honest most of my close family have never had accounts because they don't even have computers/email. My folks were still using rotary dial phones until just a few years ago, and didn't have a microwave until about the same time. They don't know how to text with their cells which are the old flip phones.

However, the original reason I got my Facebook account was because my high school class reunion was coming up and it was a simple way to coordinate with friends who live in different time zones. When you have friends scattered across time zones from Germany to New York to Chicago, California, Guam, Singapore and Japan, it is much harder to pick up a phone and chat since one of you may have to be up at God-awful hours of the night to do so. This is the primary reason I have kept my account. Even though most of my friends post these horrible anti-animal abuse photos or religious junk, it is still the best way to connect with those who are not in my time zone.

Actually my biggest gripe about Facebook is families keeping people's pages going after that individual dies. It's really creepy to see photos being posted to pages of friends I know died to celebrate their anniversaries or birthdays or whatever. (shudder) Normally I delete those pages from my friends list after someone dies, but I didn't keep up with it this winter (it was a bad year for some reason) and was recently reminded when I started seeing messages from a couple of them show up.

No. Facebook sucks. There are other services that can be used to keep contact as well. You have a phone, right? Well, people can call it. Or maybe a Skype? People can contact that as well.

I wish I could delete other's accounts especially the pieces of shit that discriminate against blacks, gays, lesbians, bis, transexuals, Mexicans, Muslims.

Well, I don't have a facebook account, so I didn't have this problem obviously. However, many people don't seem to understand why you are not on facebook and would try to convice you to make a profile there. So, I guees it may be something similar. Whatever, I'm not interested in it and people can contact me by other means.

ive deleted my fb and people didnt like it cause of distance and wanted to know how my son was doing but tbh i deleted it because i had a lot of stalkers just looking for personal info or pics of me or/and my son. I mean i deleted people, blocked people, was careful who i added and they always found a way to get on someone elses account to get to view and stalk my page and as a mom i had enough and deleted that page. after few yrs i made one again but i dont add really anyone in my hometown where this was such a huge problem but people who are out of state. i'm sure i'll finally leave the 14 friends mark once im moved and get a new better life going for me.

I feel bad for the OP for having her family react like that. It really shouldn't be hard to pick up the phone and call or even text someone and see how they are.

I never had FB and will never sign up for it. Too much social network drama.

People who actually enjoy facebook are complete morons who don't realise that there are other ways of contacting people. I've had this problem years ago when I deleted my account. I just told them to learn to use a phone, or maybe even open the door and walk OUTSIDE!
