We all have something preventing us from getting to current goals. So you tell me.

Bad relationship? Money? Your parents? Existential issues? Geographical location? Social anxiety?

I'd like to go back to university right now, but money prevents me until the Winter semester.

At one point, Ranwolf, I wanted to do the same. It was the family trade...for all intents and purposes. I had the benefit of being in the states, which meant I'd be pretty busy no matter what branch I joined. I wanted to be in the Navy, but then all at once I never enlisted (which was pretty devastating), and now I'm just a satellite support tech with a scooter. Haha

Life's been good to me, so I don't really fall into the existential issue not being able to follow my original.

On the upside, you will always be the easiest person to fix.

I guess but my only real options are immigration, joining a Foreign Legion ,or God help me working for a PMC. The first two are the only really palatable options but immigration this day and age is damn tedious and expensive. Joining a Foreign Legion sounds good on paper but really I'd just be a merc with a uniform..A PMC is just a merc without the uniform or the lackluster honour a Foreign Legion has.

And my countrymen are a lost cause, they won't see sense anytime soon.

My crippling (incurable) back pain. It prevents me getting a job, moving on with life, being happy with who I am, being able to do the things i use to enjoy, getting a better education, dashes all hope of ever getting into a meaningful long-lasting relationship with a good woman (and subsequent pride of becoming a father), depresses me severely, makes me very guilty because I'm nothing more than a burden on my family now, and it puts me on this endless cycle of pain, narcotics, withdrawals, and stagnation.

So yeah. That's what's holding me back.

Unlocking in the hopes this remains on topic now. Money probably holds back much of what I'd like to do - travel and such, but for the most part I can't complain.

I got a younger brother in a similar boat. He's got a pretty noticeable mental handicap...and what sucks the most is that he's becoming aware of it and is getting depressed about it.

Pardon me if I'm prying too much, but what kind of back condition is it?

Yeaaaah, it seems to one of the more complex things...and when you're in the thick of it, well...yeah.

Been there before. Thought all hope was lost; what's life worth living without belonging, eh? But, there's always an outlet. Keep on keeping on. You're on schedule to wake up tomorrow, so there's always that.

Ah don't sweat it. Thing is, we don't know what's causing the problem. I've had two back surgeries and I've got a great deal of metal implants along my spine, so there's a distinct possibility that it's related to that. But we've exhausted all avenues of diagnosis, so it's a condition that will be holding me back for good. Unfortunate, but I guess it's just something I'm going to have to learn to deal with.

This question unleashed more than what was anticipated, eh? The world is tough. Life is tough. We all have tough problems that get in our ways. It is up to each of us to overcome these tough problems and move forward.

Some of us will be defeated, and some of us will move forward. Life is full of the vagaries of a lottery. Chance and opportunity. Or Chance and obstacles. We have to be strong enough to find our own way out of our entrapments, and find our individual freedoms and successes.

Going to go with this. I've achieved all my goals in life except retirement but that's only 2.5 years away anyways. I'm happy with how things are now.
