if you were to see me walking down the street you would probably never even think i watched anime or that i was a die hard fan, so thought my life it was always interesting to hear peoples stories about what really got them into watching/reading anime. for me when i was 16 i was injured from sports and ended up having to get surgery on my back. it was hard for me to even walk to the bathroom from my room even tho it was just out the door. I had always watched naruto as a kid and while i was surfing the net i ended up finding my way to crunchy roll and all the big anime sites. So, for someone who was in my case watching these adventures, comedy, love stories and so on Gave me a way to forget the pain and have a really good laugh and enjoy my time even tho i couldn't leave my room. In a way it helped me recover.
Overall, I've herd some really good stories about how people got into anime so i was wondering if there were any more because i love hearing about them. hopefully people post to this!

My siblings always watched anime so i saw some here and there usually being pokemon, dragon ball z, or bleach. My sister started watching chobits and fruits basket which i found a little interesting but not enough to watch the who series. Yet anyways. One day at the public library i was 13 & i saw too books being someone who never reads and didnt really watch anime its weird i picked them up. One was actually Korean that was Chocolat. Ik theres arent called mangas forgot the exact name.. & thw other was Shugo Chara & i did actually read them and got into both stories! I shortly found out after reading 3 volumes of Shugo Chara there was an anime with it. So i started watching it. But wanted the best quality picture, i came across Crunchyroll. I started watching it and maybe 5 episodes in i kept reading about a contest involving the anime going on then. Collect all badges and youd win i said why not and made an account! Been watching anime & been on CR (on & off) since then.

I guess i did sort of like anime as a kid. I mean i used to sometimes watch Astro boy or Robotech or Saliormoon, Speed racer, etc but in all honesty, it wasn't until i was 14 that a friend of mine introduced me to it as "Anime" and that it was Japanese.
I saw "Mermaid forest" and "Urotsukidoji ledgend of the overfiend" and i was hooked.

The same mate intorduced me into JRPG's. In all honesty i initially thought they were gay, i mean i loved "Secret of mana" but i thought turn based combat was shit.
Same mate had anime pics on his wall and like loli stuff and i was like WTF?
Funny thing is , i turned out way more of an anime fan than him in the end. Probably JPRG player also.
Funny how that worked out

I think around 1998 Cartoon Network started airing Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon. Before that I was probably too young for anything like Robotech to hold my interest or set me off on discovering more anime. Anyway, after I entered highschool I saw Akira, and Vampire Hunter D and I was on my way to discovering more online.

my cousins are both huge anime fans and slowly but surely got me into one piece. once i was good and hooked on that they started watching even more anime when i was around. Then one of them stumbled upon crunchy roll and paid for three months as a birthday gift. the rest is history

Childhood nostalgia and manga!

When I was a child I used to watch a lot of old cartoons and 80's computer graphic shorts. So I heavily got into animation, and studied a variety of representations of it. Huge respect for how much work goes into animation, no matter what part of the globe it comes from.

Miyazaki's Spirited away. if it wasn't for this film, i wouldn't be an anime fan honestly... i would never even delve into this hobby...

that film just blew me away... like the visuals are stunning, fantastic storytelling... etc etc.

(this was 12 years ago xD, so i delve further into anime after watching that film at 15... and found more amazing anime like FMA, FMP, berserk, death note etc)

Hmm, I would have to go with watching pokemon and DBZ when I was younger, not really knowing it was called anime, then during college I found Evangelion and it started from there

I believe it was watching Spirited Away with my daughter several years back that really sparked my interest. Then several episode of Full Metal Alchemist grabbed me. I have always enjoyed animation. From there it only took a few recommendations from friends and here I am.

I bought a copy of Animerica magazine one day, just for something different and I got hooked.
