When I was a kid I watched Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh and played nintendo so I kinda liked the japanese style of animation. Then when I was a young teenager (13-ish), I was into being scene/emo which had visual-kei and anime influences so I discovered anime through there.

For me I watch Sailor Moon and this is with dubs. It was okay but it really did not get me into anime. Then I watch Slayers sub on cable and after watching an ep of it. I was into anime.

My friend would bring manga to primary school and i would read them with him. Almost all of them being Shonen Jump manga. Then i started watching stuff on Toonami, then on whatever websites I could find them.

When I was little I used to watch anime like Sailor Moon and Fruits Basket. My uncle found out I was watching anime and being the huge fan he is started telling me more and more about it until i got to be the absolute otaku trash that I am now. On top of that, I grew up bilingual (also knowing a little bit of a lot of languages) so I'm able to soak up languages like a sponge. Although I'm nowhere close to fluent I sometimes find myself thinking in Japanese so that's cool i guess

I come from the long ago days of untranslated anime, geeks with imported-laserdisc rooms at sci-fi and gaming conventions, printed Animag synopses that were treated more valuable than platinum, and our fan-awakening national obsession with Lum.

As it turns out, Urusei was actually second for me; I'd wandered into one of said fan disc-rooms at a gaming convention--hoping to show off that I'd seen "Akira"--but they were showing the Dirty Pair instead:

In those days, the Dirty Pair could hook a fan INSTANTLY. (For those too young, imagine "Totally Spies" with bigger guns.)

Stayed around to watch a bit of Beautiful Dreamer, and it wasn't until a fansubber stuck the first UY episode on the end of a Project Eden tape that I finally found the name of that tiger-bikini girl.

I've watched cartoons since forever. When Toonami started showing anime alongside the cartoons I didn't pay attention, I loved some of the cartoons back then. After some time I came back to watch Toonami Aftermath and got slightly into DB, SM, and somehow into Naruto. I casually watched DB, Cardcaptor, and Sailor Moon, as a kid and thought it was mildly interesting, but I never payed attention to the story since looooong shows were never my thing. Then I got my degree in anime. I think the first anime I actually watched was the Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh dubs when it had just come out.

A friend of my mum son told me he had brought home a video with demons and stuff from school and asked if I would like to watch it - What I ended up doing is watching 30 minutes of Legends of the Overfiend whilst our Mum were at the shops...I was 13 at the time but that movie and those 30 minutes triggered my fondness and love of Anime ever since :D.

I suppose I grew up watching anime without really knowing what it was. I used to watch Pokemon, Digimon, Dragonball Z, and I remember occasionally catching an episode of One Piece or Inuyasha on Toonami. However, I wouldn't really say that's what got me into anime as I didn't watch those kinda shows all the time. In fact, I rarely watched them as I grew older.

It wasn't until 2012 that I really started to become interested. I just remember moving to a new place with a few friends and was starting my sophomore year of college. I guess I must have been bored and decided to look for something to watch. I honestly don't remember what that first anime was.....but looking back it was either Death Note or Sword Art Online. I'm pretty sure it was Death Note.

My older brother.

When I was little he was already a teenager so I looked up to him. He used to watch a good bit of anime so thats how I found out about it.

I was really bored and cable was free in my apartment. I'd be up late at night and would watch adult swim. I think Inuyasha was the first show I wanted to watch every episode and not just a few here and there. I had seen DBZ, but I wasn't hooked. I didn't have Cartoon Network as a kid, so I never knew about Sailor Moon. I think after that it was Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, Trigun, Chobits, Elfen Leid, Serial Experiments Lain, and Fruits Basket. I saw a nice mix of shows as my first shows.

I was watching television and wanted to see cartoons. One day, I caught Japanese cartoons. I was too young to distinguish Japanese, American, and other cartoons apart. I drifted into anime without realizing that they were foreign until I was twelve. I was always hooked on animation, so watching anime simply "happened.".

I grew up watching Pokemon and Yugioh. When I was older I watched "Spirited Away" and became a fan for life.
