I want to get into making AMVs. I've done a little video editing through school. Most of the anime I watch is from streaming sites like this one. I know where to find raws and such but most of everything I find is in MKV. Software never seems to like this. Does anyone have any hands on experience making MKVs work in editing software like AfterEfects or SonyVegas? Or hands on with a good converter to let you use .mkv in said software?

MKV is a video container format, not a video format itself.

yes and also not usable as is inside any video editing software. it needs to be converted somehow and do you have any experience with this process?

well I think I found how to do this. Though I'm not sure I would be much help replicating the process. http://www.amvhell.com/showthread.php?26707-The-Lazy-Man-s-Guide-To-AMV-Editing used that as a guide but it's horribly out of date and doesn't give much answers, MKVExtractGui 2 is needed and finding a version of MKVToolNix that still works with it was the biggest problem 6.6.0 is what worked for me. Then taking the h264 video it extracts from the MKV container into MP4Box. Anyway, leaving this here as a relic for anyone who is trying to do the same thing here.

I don't know if it is super active anymore. But www.animemusicvideos.org had a lot of super helpful information on their forums about anything and everything pertaining to AMV's.
