I know it's banned in New Zealand apparently because of sexual exploitation of minors, but the OFLC NZ also lists that the series has extreme violence, torture and/or cruelty (examples according to them include the Robot Queen getting kicked in the head, etc.). Given that they let stuff like the Human Centipede (not 2, however) and other fare clearly more violent (keep in mind OFLC NZ's decision on that was a decade ago so standards have changed), was Puni Puni Poemy really that violent?

First off, I'm going to have to move this to Polls, because of rules and stuff.

Secondly...
I need to rewatch Puni Puni Poemy soon, I remember it being really funny and over the top and stuff but not as material so offensive or violent that the people of a sophisticated country such as NZ need to be "protected" from it.

That said, I hope that a lot of staff working in these institutions that regulate these silly censorships retire peacefully very soon.
Preferably to a place, somewhere in the mountains, far away from any electronic device.
And not only in NZ.

It doesn't matter.

Yeah, it is.
and I don't see how it would be a problem for a mature audience.

Complaining that Puni Puni Poemy is violent and sexual completely misses what it and Excel Saga are even trying to do. They're satire. With that said, yes, it is pretty violent and sexually provocative. It's not for the faint of heart.

It's a work of art plain and simple..some art can be violent.
