Well usually if someone takes the time to review an anime and are just a regular fan not a critic then its probably because they actually like it and want to share with people what they liked. So really its just why you should watch which is fine thats why we have reviewers like ark or demo to tell us just how shit our favorite anime really is

most anime are made for a young audience (say 10-15 years old), so it probably suited their tastes. and things like girly romance shows... the intended audience will love those shows, where as unintended audience will hate it.

Because they're not getting paid to pretentiously evaluate something mediocre that they don't like on a set of values only they have. Or to put it simply: reviews on Crunchyroll are motivated by love or hate. They don't have time to watch and then remark on a series they have no interest in ever watching.

Besides all else, it's equally pretentious to claim that the series here are deserving only of a 2 star rating. And you answer the question as to why in one one letter word 'I' it is your opinion. You are using a presupposed set of values to decide on the 'objective' quality of a series, which is oxymoronic unless you're referring to sound quality, animation quality, scene complexity or character design complexity. Story quality is relative for the most part, and to an extreme.

Take this as an example: say you use NGE as a baseline for evaluating the quality of a series, and you evaluate something like Non Non Biyori by the same set of values. You cannot in sincerity claim a rationale for judging entirely unrelated things, but that's only assuming that you actually do that at all anyway.

Rather, when you read a review which is anything longer than a paragraph, you are not reading the ABSOLUTE WORD OF GOD on the series, you are reading one person's personal opinion. That opinion might line up with yours, or it may not. You are not obligated to agree with his/her opinion, and they aren't with yours.

Certainly there are series that I love to pieces and feel what they do, they do better than others, but it doesn't make them 'good' it just means that I enjoy them and have reasons for doing so. That's all a review is, it's someone's opinion, and it is also your opinion that their opinion is good or not, but that's exclusive to you.

But, by all means, I encourage you to have an opinion and make it heard. Especially if it deviates from the norm, heaven forbid that everyone agrees on everything. What I do take issue with, and unrelentingly I'll admit, is the idea that there is any absolute system of quality to judge a series by outside its explictly technical values.

TL;DR - Making judgement calls for everyone about things you don't like is dumb, don't do it.

It may be that most people that would rate the series low won't bother to watch past the first couple episodes and the low ratings get drowned out by the viewers that rate high on each ep.

Another thing is that as non professional critics we are generally trained to use either 1 or 5 stars whenever we are presented with a graded star system or something of the sort. There's many reasons for this, two of them I can think of right now. One being in scenarios where you are asked to evaluate someones performance we are trained to always rate 5 if it was an overall positive experience because the people who analyze these surveys treat anything less than a perfect 5 as an abject failure and that person suffers for it or at least doesn't get recognition. Another reason is aggregate scoring. When someone sees an aggregate score that differs from their opinion, many times they vote 1 or 5 as that has the biggest swing impact on an aggregate.

Maybe because the anime evokes a deeper feeling in those individuals. It's art--it's up to how you interpret it.

I don't look at the rating when I'm searching for something new to watch. If you want to know if you could like something read the reviews.
5 Stars reviews are more helpful then 1 Star reviews anyway.

It depends on people's preferences. Some people love SAO and think it's 5 stars, I personally think it's overrated shit

You just can't do it on a 5 star scale, with those rules anything that isn't 1 or 2 stars is considered good. I use a 10 star scale for my reviews just for simplicity, but if I really wanted to get deeply into reviewing I would use a 100 point system that takes into account all areas of cinematic arts. Unless you're getting paid for it you probably don't have that much time or effort to put in.

For terrible shows I refuse to force my self to suffer watching low quality entertainment for the mere purpose of stating why its bad. I watch shows for fun.

Ratings reflect opinions of those who feel the need to leave their thoughts on the topic at hand. That being said, that's a very small portion of the people who simply watch the anime and move along to the next.

Take ratings with a grain of salt.

You know those comments fans post each episodes? Those count as reviews, in my opinion. Their excitement level gives you an idea of how fun a show might be to watch.

True. I look through them just to see if there's anything funny. Some gold references in there sometimes.

I'm not generous..
If I seem that way, then it's mostly because I actually like it..

nice, everyone says its dissapointing but so far its pretty catchy art/story wise
yes and no, as its as some elements of story inbetween etc, its still quite messy to follow and for some hard to watch (by how its fast it goes and such)

sure its good when you maybe takes it bit higher because of something is of your liking but should you also not consider whats generally good that every critic tries to show the faults and the goods about them some has more value then others like how the story progress, art, characters and so on.. so the ranking shouldn't be about ones opinions even though too many do it because OMG HOT CHICKS!!! fanservice, gore, "adult themed" (yeah right) and anything else, sure the anime can have a good song you liked or loved does not mean you should rate it soo high.

And why these reviews also have a how usefull vote yes/no?
even though agian the fans can ruin that and dislike or haters dislike the other side

Sad that most of the time I see the most rated reviews just being silly things and far to little of value searching through.
