Why is it that there's a lot of Video games and cartoons that are like "Hey, It's Mexico! Our culture is awesome!" but like... isn't that the same place that people are trying to escape from?

Like escape, not even a recent thing, like stretching possibly a hundred or few hundreds of years people have been trying to get to America.

Why is that?

Technically, "America" as in the United States - many of those same states and cites which are Spanish words - those lands have probably more ties to people of Mexican heritage than say the pilgrims and Easterners who originally propogated the myth of "English" being native to the Americas. Maybe by wanting to "escape" to Los Angeles or Santa _____ , Los _______ , Las _________ - they are not really far from home after all.

Other than Illinois, weren't all those in Spanish territory at one point? It was actually "La Florida" (The Flowery) by the way.

I am curious about your thoughts on Ireland. It is a country with periods of mass emmigration over the last few hundred years. Should the Irish not be proud of their culture because they move elsewhere?

Las Florida

That would be La Florida - feminine singular noun, perhaps you studied French. My post was more about the obsession with the southern border.

Many western-born people like visiting countries that people try desperately to run away from. It's sight seeing to them, they don't actually have to live the way the people in those countries live.

Yeah, I'll validate you on the "Uninformed" thing--And if this isn't a "Well, like, why shouldn't we build a Wall, if all those funny-talking rapist-type people are going to come over here?" post, you've got some contextual explaining to do, FAST.

Yeah, but they only had famine, poverty and British oppression, not drug wars.

Culture has no effect on how much a person dislikes their country. They could dislike it for mainly the government/crime. There are tons of Chinese/Chinese-american people who love their culture but hate their country.

Having a rich culture does not necessarily mean that everyone is going to stay especially if you live in country with high levels of poverty, crime etc etc. In addition, net Mexican migration to the USA is now negative.

Also considering your recent threats (most notably Theory: Dinosaurs were actually the "Dragons") I would recommend looking into the pros and cons of reading.

Dude WTF! do you mean by escape, is not like there's a giant wall keeping us in. I'm mexican and the reason people get out of the country is because they are seeking for better life opportunities (normally in the financial way) our culture is what makes the country incredibly attractive for tourists, so don't come saying that we promote our culture but hate or dislike our country because that's complete bullshit and one of the biggest stereotypes I've ever heard. Totally agree Quirk

So, basically, you're asking: "Why are people trying to escape such wonderful tourist attractions?" ;p

The USA has only existed for 240 years. Not hundreds...
The Spanish established the colony of New Spain in 1521.

Back to your question
I'm a proud Mexican American and have no shame in admitting my love towards the land of my ancestors. We have a beautiful culture that has been tainted by poverty and a terrible caste system. I don't know if it will ever change but my love towards Mexico is forever.
I hate the fact that Mexicans Americans are given a hard time for having pride but the Irish and Italians are celebrated for their heritage. Maybe it's because they're white? There is an Irish pub in my city that has several Irish flags outside their building and no one bats an eye. I can't even put a Mexican flag decal on my car becuase the police department might pull me over.
