I've been watching and reading One Piece for a long time now. I've thought of many things that could be the One Piece, but one thing in mind has made me think. What if Luffy's hat is the One Piece? Some of you right now are probably getting ready to apply to this forum saying that I am wrong, it's just a symbol of Gol D. Roger. The reason I believe this is because Luffy has on many occasions stated that the straw hat is his treasure. I honestly think if the One Piece was anything besides the hat, it would be weird. After Shanks gave Luffy the hat, he hasn't really done anything to search for the One Piece. This could mean it's because he knows that the hat is the One Piece, which could have been the reason Roger fave it to him. Maybe the hat is the One Piece, and the journey to search for it will end where Luffy finds out he had it all along. Now, the place were Luffy finds that put could be Raftel.

He's trying to find the meaning behind the title "One Piece" (the name of the popular series aimed at young boys)
OP postulated that "One Piece" refers to the hat worn by the main character because it is supposedly treated as a treasure of sorts.
What If he looses his hat though? Zero Piece? :p

I don't think Oda would do such a thing

Let's just hope that isn't what One Piece is. And it can't be your standard treasure of sliver and gold because then all the treasure in the world might as well be One Piece.

I'm convinced this is what it's going to be. Amazingly well thought out theory properly backed up with facts.

It has been stated by the author, Oda, that the One Piece is a physical thing and is located on Raftel, the final island in the new world.

If you've followed One Piece for a long time like you've claimed, you would've known that when the One Piece is found, it's going to result in a world-encompassing war.

No one is going to go to war for a straw hat.

It's not. The One Piece is supposed to "shake the world". Plus Oda isn't gonna troll the readers like that.

He better not pull something like that. The whole One Piece fandom will turn into an angry mob and unleash hell.

id say one piece is Gold D. Roger's accumulated knowledge of the poneglyphs, a map to something really crazy to extend the mystery, and maybe an ancient weapon of the past or belongings of those from the 'blank century'. the poneglyphs are a must i think because of Roger's message on the poneglyph on sky island that Robin read, and the rest is a mystery. i just want one piece to live as long as me, im going to be devastated once it's over

The Straw Hat is not the One Piece for various reasons, but I'll give you the most concrete ones:

First, what JuJu said: It has been stated by the author, Oda, that the One Piece is a physical thing and is located on Raftel, the final island in the new world.

Second, Roger was already wearing the Straw Hat when he began his own journey and discovered One Piece. Why would he go on a journey for something he already has?

And third, the real reason for the Straw Hat is symbolism for a recurring theme in One Piece: "The Dreams of Men, Inherited Will, and the Flow of Time - as long as people continue searching for freedom, these three things cannot be stopped." The Straw Hat, and all of its wearers (Roger, Shanks, then Luffy), represent those ideals.
