I was at a terrible time in my life, and someone quoted Friedrich Nietzsche to me: "If thou gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will also gaze into thee." It changed everything for me. I wrote it down on a sticky note and placed it on the wall of my room. That piece of paper, those words; built fortitude around me when I stood in front of them. I learned a lot about myself in that time.

Nietzsche rules, but then again so what?

Words are power. Music lyrics, literature, film/television lines, public speaking. Advice, no matter its source, is information. Taking a quote from someone who's been through the abyss, would know. I just think that kind of philosophy is empowering.

Sorry about that, I was trying to add an existential 'finally it's all irrelevant' gag at the end. You are correct.

No worries! I didn't take anything the wrong way. I think I was just adding a reason to it all. You are correct. It is indeed all irrelevant now. Love the wit!

"You can either be bitter, OR you can be better"

As in rather than complaining about work/school or a particular failure (or fear of it) or someone being ahead of you - you should motivate yourself to be better.
