Currently, the British government is building a new Antarctic Research Ship costing £200 million and is intended to sail the waters of Antarctica and the Arctic carrying a team of 90 scientists and support staff. The Natural Environment Research Council created an online poll to allow the general public to decide on what to name the vessel. Currently the most popular name is RRS Boaty McBoatface with other names such as RSS Pillar of Autumn (from Halo) at No 4, RSS its Bloody Cold Here at No 5, RSS Pingu at No 9 and RSS Boatimus Prime at No 10.

However, there have been serious submissions as well such as RSS Henry Worsley (at No 2) who died attempting to cross the Antarctic unaided. He was raising money for the Endeavour Fund which supports the recovery of wounded, injured and sick Servicemen and women. Another submission has been RSS David Attenborough, a broadcaster and naturalist and is considered by some to be a National treasure, currently stands at No 3.

All I can say is: Rule Britannia

Wow, a memorial to one of Adam Sandler's few funny sketches, back when he was actually working for someone else who could rein in his lame self-indulgent material! What better to serve the cause of naturalistic science?

Maybe we'll get Da Ca-juhn Ship, to investigate currents in the Caribbean, or the Hanukah Desert-Farming experiment!

I, OTOH, heartily endorse the more Antarctic-friendly RRS Pingu:
