Robots in Japan can now feel emotions.

Meet Pepper, the emotional robot. [can I just say that Pepper is officially the most adorable robot I have ever seen]

http://qz.com/433877/robots-in-japan-now-have-emotions/

Summary: Basically, Pepper is an emotional robot, designed to feel emotions, and interact with people. While it doesn't feel emotions like real people, it's AI is designed to react the same way the average human would react to a situation.

I definitely recommend you go check out the videos on the website, by the way.

Meh, a soulless robot and emotion..does not compute mate. Really though this seems like such a waste of resources and talent. The robot that is and the effort spent in it's coding. I mean if you're going to waste time with something that has no real practical application why not improve a video game's AI subroutines, find a better way to pay online or something.

Honestly, I don't think this robot has any purposes other than to be cute, interact with people, and record videos (go check the website). While I agree with you that this robot is virtually useless, things like this are proof of how far we're starting to get with AI.

I guess you do have a point there. As a proof of concept this robot does have some value.

Actually there have been cyborganic limbs for quite some time..They are just ridiculously expense and have a poor man to machine interface.

Do they look anything like this? I'd get behind it.

YA know the Dreadnought from Warhammer 40k doesn't really count as a half man half machine thing. It is essentially a life support unit the Adeptus Astartes decided to wield some armour plate onto and give guns to..Ya'd literally be on death's doorstep in that thing.

...And perhaps another symptom pointing to Japan's declining birthrate. When you gotta turn to machinery for companionship.......

This is their plan. To sell robotic partners for all the single people in the world, and they will start leasing them.

Oh yes, it's coming my friends. Prepare your credit.

Just wait for that singularity event in 2045 which will lead to the war of man and machine. Dirty robots are still takin' our jobs. (not a machinist)
Seriously though there is an interesting film theory about it based on the terminator. Maybe you should watch it. It's quite interesting and scientists are legitimately worried this thing could happen.
