Just shout out "ANIMU IS GUD FAM!" in class and all the weebs will cheer you on and reveal their secret lives of yaoi obsessions and crawl from the dark depths of lone fanfiction surfing to join you in your cringy otaku adventures on Tumblr!

Conventions, book stores, gaming stores, online forums, local message boards, libraries, etc.

I'm going the conventions route myself I think.

you could go on twitter, first give it access to your location and type in the search bar "anime near:me" then click "live" on the search result and it will bring up people that live close by who are talking about anime, that's just an example

That's creepy I know lol

As a part owner of an LGS/Comic store, I'd have to say that becoming a regular at a place like this is a great way to meet new people. I have met so many fantastic people over the last year or so since I became a partner, on top of the connections that I had made through the gaming/comic community in years prior just by being a regular at my local.

Ya know, I'm not actually sure that's as creepy as you think. If nothing else it gives you a way to see if other anime fans are nearby and where they hang out. Not saying you use it to stalk them but it's actually not a bad way to reach out and find people, no different than some of the other social media outlets really. I think I may try it actually, thanks for the tip!

I actually have a question about this. There is a great gaming spot nearby but the problem I've run into is they have become very cliquish and aren't open to new people the way they used to be. Is there a way to break into that or have you experienced that problem before?

I've seen them around, I just don't know how to get beyond noticing them to them being your friend

As someone who isn't a cliquey person, I'm not really sure lol. I do see the cliques all the time though. I guess my advice would be to just be friendly. If they seem like your kind of people and they like you, you'll just gradually migrate into their circle. If they outright shun you, then you likely don't want to waste your time with them anyway. In that case it probably isn't because of anything you did, rather than that's just the type of people they are.
