OMg Yeah. and with my grandparents as well.
when i was small i was quite fluent apparently, but now english is like what i speak all the time.
it does get annoying, cos they can never understand the first time, i ALWAYS have to repeat.

Well, my father is married to a Russian woman and they speak English / semi Norwegian to each other.

He speaks simple but correct English, with a somewhat odd pronunciation now and then.

Yeah my parents arent fluent either, even though they have been living here for over three decades.

I mean its ok, they can understand English when you speak to them but can't really speak it too well.
Whenever we have to go to the doctor or anything i usually have to go and translate- so embarassing

My mom knows English, but she's terrible at it. It annoys me that she mixes around "he" and "she" all the time and says "can" when she really means "can't". It's actually funny sometimes

I don't mind that they have bad accents and can't speak comfortably in English. But, I'd be the same if I came to the States at that age. What I hated as a child was when people who work in crappy jobs like McDonald's don't take them seriously or even insult them if they seem have trouble with the conversation. I'm thinking "What the hell is your problem? My parents make several times what you make and have professional degrees."

I remember when my dad thought he was very hip for learning FYI (for your information). He's always say "FYI" to anyone he was talking to.
My mom would say all kinds of English phrases for fun since she talks to Americans all the time. Whenever I was studying or doing something, she'd look at me and say "You can do it!"
