child, as we grow we start to determine what it means to be alive. some see value in monetary possessions. others in friendship and love but the truth is that we have no value. our lives are but a fleeting existence that is filled with pain and despair. we cannot hope to achieve meaning in life, all we can do is try to forget about the inevitable end when we fade to dust, broken and forgotten. as you grow look upon your peers and see the light fade from their eyes as they start to realise the world is truly pointless and that their cares and hobbies are just a distraction meant to keep them happy in a society that feeds of the empty lives of those within it. we will all die eventually, we cannot escape this, but don't be distraught my child. we are only given one life so go out and live it. it may be hard sometimes to justify a meaningless existence but remember, even though we eventually fade to dust that dust will hold the seeds of the next generation and the cycle will continue. if you fill your life with things and people that make you happy you can look back and realise that life did hold joys after all despite the bleak realities of existence. you are but an individual, a small insignificant one at that, but that doesn't mean you can't live a full and rich life. face your problems head on and never except failure. your life is your own. no one else's

and that's why we don't run with scissors

You'll really say all of that to a child?

I'd wait until they're at least four. A 3 year old isn't going to understand my explanation of death.

"Do you see brown leaves on the ground? That is death. The green ones still on the trees are alive. It's the same with people. You and me, we are the green leaves, dead people are the brown leaves."

I just wouldn't say anything. Probably not the best way to go about it, but I just don't think I could explain.

well atleast it has its way to say "you live until you die, not that you will fall by yourself but from when your life cannot live anymore" (optional vs when it comes it comes or fight for it)

To think that a generation grew up without Old-Skool Sesame Street--
Specifically, the episode where they had to cover up Mr. Hooper's death by explaining it to Big Bird:

Darling, have you ever heard of the word analogy?

P.s. I'm not going to watch youtube links xD I don't understand why people post them in their posts without any explanations and expect people to just watch a 10 mins vid for no reasons.

Walk em out to a highway or a forest and show them a dead animal. " That used to be a living deer, now its dead."

I mean.... I myself am still trying to figure out death, let alone trying to explain it to a child

Do you think of death as a start, or a beginning?

I dunno, show them a living creature, and then show them a dead one... pretty self-explanatory. If a close relative dies it'll be traumatic whether they are young or old.
