Many of you have probably heard of Skip Beat!, but for those of you who have not (WATCH IT), Skip Beat! is a exceptional Anime adapted from the manga, of the same name, written by Yoshiki Nakamura. It revolves around the story of Kyoko Mogami, a sixteen year old girl that gives her all in everything she does. Kyoko gets "dumped" by her childhood friend, and a rising star, losing her ability to love and she seeks revenge by becoming a actress that will surpass him.

Skip Beat! although a Shoujo has captivated the hearts of many, but what's a highly rated Shoujo need help with in order to get a English Dub, or why make a English Dub at all?

Those of you who have watched the anime surely have realized that the anime seemed to have ended at a really odd place, and as a matter of fact it did. There was definitely still plenty of source materials to work with in the Manga and they ended it in the middle of no where, what's up with that? But not all is lost, although small, there is a sliver of hope for this anime to continue and the first step is none other then the English Dub.

The creation of this English Dub will not be possible without our help, even a dollar will bring them a dollar closer, and if you see the goal hit please don't stop there. This anime is one that truly deserves our help. Support it today!

Oh wow...

This was an excellent adaptation of the shoujo manga. I was hoping for the longest time that they would do something to this title to bring it back into the much newer anime fans.

I think this anime was released at a wrong time era in 2008 when legal streaming was just starting out ....I was hoping they would continue adapt the manga , the manga is really very well written.

Agreed, the manga is very well written. Personally I'm not even a big fan of Shoujo myself, as a matter of fact I mostly stay clear of it unless I'm struggling for something to watch, but this series is one that I think needs to be given a chance. I definitely think they need to continue the anime and that I need to catch up on some light reading.

I heard an interview with the producer on ANNcast the other day and this really does seem like a worthwhile project, and got me to put Skip Beat in my queue. Even though I've consistently heard good things about the show, the description on Crunchy has always made me go ick and then turn away. I'm going to push past the ick feeling for at least a few episodes, and assuming it stops making me go ick I intend to donate a bit.

It was refreshing to hear Ann of Pied Piper speak frankly about the reason this has been still sitting without a DVD release, her concerns about the funding due to that dub requirement, but also her hope and joy and plan for doing so. I like practical people who also aspire and the stretch goals reflect a practical approach to the challenge.

I watched episode 1 again and just remembered this is the anime that I fell in love with Konishi san voice

and the second time I heard Miyano san as well and these seiyuu did their characters well that I learn to hate Mamuro's voice

but now I dont

I am supporting this project

We need more backers !!!

Awesome, there's only 18 days left to go. Remember that you can change the amount at any given time during the Kickstarter. You won't actually pay until the goal date, so don't forget about it. If the goal isn't met by the end of the last day, no one will be charged, but we want to reach at least the first goal!

What about this series makes you go ick? I don't understand that reaction at all. Seriously curious.

I've already backed this. It will be so worth it if we can get this project done. The industry doesn't believe in anime like Skip Beat! thanks to so many so-called fans failing to ever buy the anime in the first place. Success here would prove that shoujo anime like this can be a success, that it does have fans willing to put their money where their mouth is, and it might even help encourage something to happen in Japan!

I'm about as far from the target audience as you can get but I loved Skip Beat! Kyoko is such a fantastic heroine.

The Kickstarter just hit $100K!

Erica Lindbeck has been cast in the role of Kanae. Less than 10K til the voice of Sho Fuwa is revealed.

Backers can be from anywhere, and the first three tiers don't have country limitations. Swag is cool, but the hope is to get a project funded. Ann was at Anime Japan. When she came back, she re-emphasized that everyone in the industry there is watching this campaign, and she isn't one for exaggeration. How well it does could make talks about a second season happen, or open up distribution rights to other countries. Think of it as a US$10 investment in a future (hopefully) filled with Skip Beat (and other shoujo) goodness.

^ I doubt this would influence a 2nd season but I imagine it would open up Skip Beat! for UK and Australia as the dub would make it attractive for companies in those countries.

It's about $6500 away from the Sho Fuwa English VA reveal.

It would definitely open a possibility of it. I wouldn't doubt it, but I wouldn't entirely believe it either if you know what I mean. The positive income generated would help out a lot in this case. Considering fans will have paid to create the English dub and they would earn income for every DVD purchased, and/or Blu-ray if that threshold gets reached. The Kickstarter would have to succeed first though in order to open that possibility.

The story of Skip Beat! is about Kyoko Mogami, a wistful yet cheery sixteen year-old girl who loves her childhood friend, Shotaro, but is cruelly betrayed and thus seeks revenge against him.

I skipped past it the first few times I saw it in the catalogue for a similar reason. It just seems like such a stereotypical romance plot from that description. But once I got past the first episode, I really got sucked in. Kyoko really is one of the best anime heroines. While revenge may have been her motivation at the beginning, in the end the show becomes more about her finding herself. Watching her is incredibly entertaining.

The story even gets more intense in the manga way past where the anime ended , there about 37 volumes and still ongoing !!!

So sad that this title was animated back then ,it would have done better if it was done after 2011 or so
