I'm having similar issues with 360 and knowing this has gone on for a year unchecked and the same issues on other platforms means I will never buy premium due to this neglect on their part. What good is premium and ad revenue if you don't support your product, very unprofessional.

If you pay for a Premium membership, you wouldn't have to worry about ads causing playback issues.

And I'd be giving money to hacks who can't support what they put out. Why in the world would I condone that kind of work ethic by subscribing?!

Its been months, I was watching a new series, can't even remember the name at this point and was really considering upgrading to premium but then I got this black screen after I checked watch with ads on my xbox one.

I thought it would pass and so I waited a few days.

Then I waited a week, I started to get annoyed and uninstalled the app and cleared my catch as some ppl say it helps with the app.

It worked for another 2 weeks, then the same thing happened again now nothing I do helps. Stopped using the app for a few months, came back, retried all the same tricks to get it to work, nothing.

At this point I don't think I will ever get premium and have stopped using crunchy roll all together I give up on this service. If you're not fixing it after a year you're not going to fix it as a ploy to convince more people to buy premium as it doesn’t affect them.

That is a malicious business practice, if you're paying for premium it should go into paying for coders and IT personnel to keep the service working for everyone not just paying subscribers!

People who watch with ads still help pay by watching said ads!

But they don't help as much as people paying for a premium membership.

Issue is still there, got done with support a bit ago. Did everything they said to do, except get a response from my internet provider, as it was suggested that they have a firewall setting somewhere that is killing it. So far no joy in getting anywhere beyond half an episode. before black screening out. We'll see what Comcast says.

I usually use the Xbox 360 since the app on the Xbone is unbearable. It seems like it's the ads that usually cause the crashes. Many ads have video that runs slower than the audio. Seeing the same ad three times in a row gets old also (although it sometimes is nice when other ads seem to cause crashes). It's hard to believe that advertisers would be ok with any of these things. I'm guessing they don't watch via the Xbox app much? I haven't used the Android app as much, but it doesn't seem to have problems like the Xbox app does. Maybe there's not enough revenue from ads via members who use Xbox to justify working on it?

From a technical standpoint, I wonder if there's a problem with needing the Xbox Live connection (or if any info goes through that connection), or if there are problems with some of the video formats that get used for the ads. With the video/audio sometimes out of sync only for some ads, I assume that those have a different format, encoding, or settings. Usually I suspect the ads, but last week's Twin Star Exorcists was being impossible, crashing a few seconds into the first ad even if that ad worked with other videos.

Not an appropriate argument or answer for many reasons: non-sequitor (not actually connected), shifts blame from people responsible onto people having the problem, divides the community into classes, etc. Not cool, dude.

From a business perspective, categories with benifit/cost ratio are like this:
Premium members > members who watch with ads > members who quit watching because ads cause crashes > members who quit watching because of the crashes and then tell people about their lousy experiences

Don't add to the numbers of that last category by implying that non-premium aren't worthy of a properly functioning product. That makes people angrier and that causes more of them to speak out or complain. It doesn't help anyone, not even Crunchyroll.

All-in-all, I really appreciate Crunchyroll & want to eventually subscribe to Premium. I don't have much budget to work with though and I genuinely don't like the feeling that I'm being strong-armed into upgrading because the product sometimes becomes unusable without upgrading. Crunchyroll would permanently lose me as a customer if I learned that they classified their ad-based customers as not being worth the effort of fixing their product. As long as that doesn't happen, I'm sure I'll either get into better financial situation one day or dump Hulu in favor of Crunchyroll one day.

If you really, really must steal anime, there are better alternatives than illegal streaming sites, which provide ad revenue to criminals, rather than the people that created the anime you're enjoying.

I just started having this problem and I had luck with the following solution.

1) I cleared my viewing history

2) I removed a lot of items from my queue. My queue was pretty massive because I would add everything I could to it.

After doing that it worked again. I don't know which actually fixed the problem. I am using the xbox 360.
