I've seen some website about this, the majority said that Roman Legion would win due to superior War Tactic, and Wise Generals. Also they said that Roman army are more Discipline than China Army..

From watching all the Asian Drama Show, I would think they could hold off against the Roman Legion pretty well.. Due to highly trained in Martial Arts, and the Army Tactic the formation.

Believe me or not :p, I'm leading toward to China.. probably because I watched the Asian Drama Military shows.. But I know they're just a movies.

But Roman Legion mostly battled against Barbarians and their own people (Roman Civil War).

But hard to tell who can win completely.. Anicent Roman Army or Anicent China Army.

What your thoughts on this?

Didn't the ancient chinese have gunpowder.
Also, Chinese Kung-fu is obviously superior to whatever barbaric excuse for martial arts those europeans had.

Lets say this is just Swords or hands and Bow & Arrows. Roman Legion would use Spear, I think China use Polearm..-shrugs-

when it comes to military battles, i dont think individuals' martial arts skills actually help... it's more based on commanders' abilities and formation

Depends if we're talking about the early or late Roman legions. The earlier ones i don't think would fare well as most soldiers were richer civilians and were chosen by their class rather than their fighting ability, However, if we're talking about lets say the Legions during the conquest of Britain I think they could do pretty good against the Chinese as the Roman army started to accept people of all classes and chose soldiers by their fighting ability, they were also extremely versatile as they adopted many different fighting styles which could fare well against other factions e.g slashing instead of stabbing. They also had many soldiers from different countries they conquered so they would again have a very versatile repertoire. Roman Legions were incredibly disciplined and were usually high morale so I think the Roman legion would win this one.

1v1 I'd say the romans would win, if the Chinese didn't use bombs, flamethrowers, or rockets. However during the roman era the Chinese were having wars where a single battle would have 100,000+ dead. So if they fought in uneven numbers the Chinese would swarm them till they were drained.

The Chinese also had better tactics than the romans due to constant warfare against large armies.

Look at the ones in millions, half of them are Chinese or some con try bordering china.

It probably would likely be about as bloody as hell, in either scenario..as much if not greater carnage in terms of melee encounters as if it were fought in modern times.

because an Asian drama gives an accurate portrayal to a country's military strength.
whichever is more technologically advanced is likely to win, though sometimes weaker nations win.
it depends heavily on the tactician.

The Chinese martial arts are impressive for 1v1 combat.

What made the Roman legions invincible was teamwork and discipline. It did not matter how skilled the individuals they were fighting, their opponents lost because they were fighting as individuals.

As for using unconventional tactics vs. the Romans, even Hannibal lost in the end.

He's still fighting as an individual, as are his opponents.

Against this, he loses, every single time.
