It pisses me off a little I guess. It put me off anime for a while because I was too worried about being called it. People like to throw it around too much.

They don't--It's what's become known on the Internet as a "Hasenpfeffer"*:
A buzzword that trolls can come onto a different fan group and throw around thinking they can push buttons and start an argument, without really quite grasping themselves, and then having no followup when a few thin-skinned newbie fans do react.
"You're all a bunch of weeaboos!"
"I am not! What makes me one, anyway?"
"Well....you just are! All anime fans are! Weeaboo!"

Just because no actual anime fan uses doesn't mean it's "forbidden", just that we recognize it as having pretty much been mutated and telephone-gamed by the other trolls out of having any real concrete definition, and just used for a rise--
Although some trolls who took the actual trouble of Googling it online think they heard it maybe has something to do with saying good things about J-culture, and....imagine, anime fans saying good things about anime.

Well, I have a bit of a problem with the word for more than a few reasons, and this is likely to become a long rant, so for those who don't want to read it, have a nice day, there's nothing to see here!~

No one has never called me a weeaboo irl (just online by other weebs). I'm not intensely into Japanese culture so if someone calls me one in my face. I won't let these things bother me cause it's not true lol.

Where-as online, it's a joke to make fun of someone. Nobody wants to be a weeb since it has bad image associated with the word.

Honestly, it's okay to be passionate with that you like, just own it. I generally stand up for what I like.

Weeaboo is a stupid word, I know people have called me that because I tried to explain to theme that Anime is an Art style and not a genre.

Also I enjoy Japanese stuff a lot and I literately wont play a game if its too ugly but if its Anime I'll try it, I don't care if people say thats unfair.

I don't know, I just accept it or shrug it off. I like Japanese culture, anime, manga, sakura, kimono, EVERYTHING. Call me a weeb if you like.

People throw it around a lot. I work at a high school and I was told high school students called me weeaboo behind my back even though they never bothered to meet me.

I think it's funny when used ironically/satirically, but some people don't like my brand of humor.

I've been called a weeaboo a few times in public for saying I like anime. I was even called a weeaboo by a Barnes & Noble employee simply for asking if they had a certain series in stock. I like some aspects of Japanese culture - however, I am most certainly not what the word weeaboo implies. This is also why I don't buy anime t-shirts - they make you a walking target.

Any words that are used incorrectly annoys me. But the actual word "weeaboo" pisses me off whether it is used correctly or not. It's pathetic how internet trolls have to come up with made up words just to mock people who happen to have different hobbies.

Well, it's desperation:
Ever watch trolls try to heckle Classic Doctor Who fanboys, without ever having seen an episode in their lives? Not easy, I'll tell ya.

At least anime fans have something the mainstream has heard of to argue about, so trolls have that little pocket-fisherman tool to bluff with, so long as no one calls them on it for details.

One of my best friends has called me a 'weeb' 'weeaboo' and described anything anime related as 'weeble shit'. So I generally just take it as a term people who don't like those things use to assert their dislike of it when they talk about anything anime related and to anyone who likes it.

Although incorrect uses of the word are kinda moot as words evolve in meaning. For example: faggot = pile of sticks. Yet, most people don't see it that way.

Right now, weeaboo is generally only taken seriously by hate mongering RAGE lunatics, aggressively angry neckbeards and people new to anime. Most of the time I tend to regard weeaboo the same way most homosexuals regard the word gay, it's little more than an identifier with little else to it.
