I went from being offended by it when I was younger to "haha yep. That's me"

It (the misuse) is so prevalent it may as well be meaningless except as a pejorative to use against people who like anything from Japan. It says more about the person using it than anything else.

I really hate the word since It's overused and I'd say 90% of the time it used wrong now days. I might not hate it as much if it was used right.

I don't like any word being miused, so I'm not a fan.

I don't care. I've never been called one, nor have I used the word.

I use that to piss people off on here. The CR users get really fucking mad when you call them that. It's funny

I'm not bothered since I only came across the word on this site. I'm unlikely to hear it used in my daily life nor come across anyone that fits that description.

Not bothered at all tbh, I've seen it used so much now it's just become a part of ironic humour

Whenever I hear that word, I can't help but to think about an anime fan who takes their love for anime WAY TOO FAR!!! Along with idolizing Japan simply because they made anime while ignoring everything else.

people who use that term against others themselves fall under their defintion of weaboo.
afterall, you need to be acquainted enough with the anime culture to know that word in the first place.

Anyone that even watches the smallest amounts of anime get called weeaboos , most likely due to Filthy Frank's video , which actually displayed a positive point and defended those who watched anime , where the fans took the point completely wrong , resulting in the false accusations of weeaboos , and you do get weeaboos of course , but the majority tends to not be.

Filthy Frank's video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFQQALduhzA

What should be acceptable , such as watching anime and having a profile pic etc. is seen as a disgusting trait because of weeaboos.

Honestly, trying to nail down concrete definitions for slang is retarded.

Contextually it's considered to be someone who loves Japan so much they abandon their own culture and feel the need to assimilate with Japanese people.

Usually they base their mental image of what Japan is on shit-tier Anime.

Back in the early days of the internet when 4chan was like the main cesspool or whatever, "weeaboo" was coined to replace the overused "wapanese." For the record, I never did hang out there, but was around during a time when they were DDOSing anime sites. A weeaboo/wapanese is basically a wannabe Japanese which is sad in itself. If you don't embrace who you are and try to behave like someone from another culture, you've got issues. I've only seen it thrown around jokingly online nowadays. "You're all a bunch of weebs." Anyone who actually remembers how "weeaboo" came about will also remember how much most of the anime fandom hated "furries." I remember them being banned from a forum I was a member of for inciting furry pride drama.

I have met some people who definitely do fit the description of weeaboo though. Like, girls/guys who will only date Asians, want to learn Japanese and live in Japan. Those ones get really upset by the word and deny being one. If they ignored it, no one would find any pleasure in teasing them. All of it of course relates back to taking anime too seriously. =(

Otaku is another ridiculous word. Like they earn some status by calling themselves one.
