Just to give an idea of what i'm interested in, here's what i've watched and enjoyed, in no articular order.
Gantz
Elfen Lied
Death Note
Code Geas
Claymore
Parasyte The Maxim
Hack:// (or something like that)
Sword Art Online
Black Lagoon
Cowboy Bebop
Bleach
Steins Gate(also read the visual novel too)
Berserk
Full Metal Alchemist(both versions)
Hellsing (also ultimate)
Blood+
Future diary
Psycho Pass
Angel Beats
Madoka Magica
Highschool of the Dead
Persona 4
Attack on Titan

And anime that I either didn't like or just couldn't get into
Naruto
One Piece
Fairy Tail
Dragon Ball & Z
Full Metal Panic
Clannad
Blood c
Gintama
Hunter x Hunter
Kill la Kill

So based on this list, what are your top recommendations?

(Edited to add Attack on Titan, and change Akame ga kill to kill la kill)

Not sure if this fits but I think Tokyo Ghoul is really good, Noragami good too. Attack on Titan was ok but that might fit your list. Maybe The irregular at magic high school and Strike the blood too?

I´ll second Jormungand and Soul Eater, and I´ll add Yu Yu Hakusho to the recommendations, the premise is similar to Bleach, although I´m not entirely sure you´ll like it since it´s written by the author of Hunter X Hunter, but I´d still say give it a chance, you may like it.

Another good option is The Seven Deadly Sins, made by the studio behind SAO. And since you liked Code Geass, watch Gurren Lagann, the most epic anime of all time.

Chaos;Head
Brynhildr in the Darkness
Black Bullet
Darker than Black
Code;Breaker
Seraph of the End
Aldnoah; Zero
M3: The Dark Metal
Symphonogear
Charlotte
Unbreakable Machine Doll
Trinity Seven
Umineko When They Cry
Ookami Kakushi: Masque of the Wolf
Riddle Story of the Devil
Blade and Soul
Loups=Garous (anime movie)
Kakurenbo: Hide & Seek (one-shot)

All are more mature anime with a darker edge and realistic tones, which seem to possibly be in your wheelhouse based on your likes and dislikes.

@Neugenx
Thanks for the list. And yeah that stuff is pretty much what I like most. Also thanks to everyone else.

Also, made a mistake with the list. I've never watched Akame ga kill, only heard of it. I got that confused with Kill la kill.

Yvw. If you haven't seen Akame ga Kill definitely add it to your must-sees list. It's both intense and dark.

Space dandy might be up your alley. It's similar to cowboy bebop.

Himouto Umaru-chan, Erased and Usagi drop are really good. The Lost village is fairly new but it gives me an another vibe.
