This episode is when we start to learn that Hayato is a pretty awesome thing. There aren't many stand-less characters in JoJo (starting from part 3 of course) as competent in dealing with supernatural stuff as he is.

Meanwhile, Kira gets a much more condescending personality now that he has the upmost confidence he can get away with all of his crimes. What's most interesting about Bites the Dust is that

(Part 5 spoiler)

Hayato's cool, he's just some kid outwitting a seasoned serial killer/Stand User, and it's great.

SPOILERS again for P5

For someone without Stand powers Hayate doing pretty well!

looks like next eps, I hope that our heroes go on the counter offensive!

While Dio took out 2 of the SC heroes (including one that stayed dead), Kira straight up obliterated everyone without even being present in one timeline. For a guy who just wants to live a quiet life, he's a terrifyingly effective villain.

Rohan's ''second'' death has to be one of the saddest moment of Part 4 in my eyes. Kira gloating that his last thoughts must have been about how he was upset that he wouldn't be able to write manga anymore...which would have been 100% accurate pre-character development as this Rohan's final words were expressing concern for Koichi. And of course, Reimi HAD to witness the boy she literally died saving getting blown up out of nowhere.

Even knowing what happens next, that cliffhanger was super evil.

He probably means GER.

I like how KQ's ability so reflects his personality. Its action is very specific, calculated and low profile since it only affects those people who are trying to wreck his plans. Also, that OP tho. Like, I want to hug those DP people.

Goddamn, though, Kira basically just said "DIO? Pfft, screw that dork, I'm gonna take over the entire fucking OP." And that's what exactly what he did, the magnificent bastard. I almost get the feeling Araki made Kira become a much more smug and sinister character at the end because he realized that Kira, for the most part, is just a regular guy despite his murderous obsession and the need to keep it hidden, and therefore his death wouldn't seem so satisfying. But I suppose if one spends long enough living a lifestyle like that, they're bound to see the worst of themselves come out so often it just becomes their normal way of being. The problem for Kira is that he now has to contend with a boy who is, in fact, perhaps just as perceptive and intelligent as he is, and he now has something to apply it towards (since you got the feeling Hayato was smart before, but like a lot of kids, he had nothing to really get him motivated to expend any serious effort).

And speaking of Hayato, can we talk about just how heavy this episode got emotionally? Like, this arc really takes DiU to a very, very dark place, and all told through the eyes of an 11-year old boy who, up until a few days or weeks ago, presumably had no real immediate concerns in his life beyond school and his various hobbies. Then, a genius serial killer walks into his life, having literally taken his father's identity as his own, and everything basically starts to come down around him. Think about the chain of events of just that morning: his mother lashes out at him while he's basically a deer in the headlights, the man who killed his father openly admits his real identity and gloats that there's nothing he can do about it, he watches someone die horribly right before his eyes, only to relive it all again and then find out that everything that he's seen is literally inevitable, after which he realizes that all of the people who could potentially help him will die too, which drives him to suicide in the vain hope it'll prevent all this, only to find he can't even do that, then witnessing the deaths of all the other Stand-users, and then starting right back at the beginning to experience it all over. And after that, this 11-year old child, pushed to the very edge, is driven to his very last available option: murder. And so, putting that sharp mind of his to use, he gathers up Stray Cat (no longer big-eyed and adorable, now sporting a look that much better emphasizes its vicious nature) and prays that he gets the chance to eliminate the man who's ruined his life. And after taking more proactive steps to better position himself after leaving the house (third time's the charm, after all), he finally gets his chance, and he doesn't waste it. But luck, unfortunately, was on Kira's side, and the killer stands up wounded but far from dead. Resolve alone won't win this struggle for Hayato, he'll need fortune to shift its blessings onto him.

Still think it was better when Dio broke the opening as he had a more distinct presence, this felt more like a remix more than it felt like Kira actually breaking the opening, but enough about the intro.

Man Hayato is awesome, I really feel for the kid and tons of respect for his bravery and wits, in fact I'd say he's more of a man than most adults including me. This episode does reveal a weakness in Kira's stand as Hayato essentially knows the future, through careful planning he could takedown Kira, however he sadly made the mistake of tipping off Kira in this episode.
