hi,
i received notifications from my account yesterday that i had gifted someone in new york city a 12 month membership. i did not do this. when i went to log into my account it said my account did not exist. I have called my bank and blocked the card and filed fraud charges. I would however like my account back or to cancel my account. how should i go about dealing with this.

~ In before this thread disappears because... reasons, which have nothing to do with hiding an issue that's been common for well over a year and which they refuse to take even the easiest possible steps to prevent or mitigate. (After all, it must be that you used the same password and name on some hacker's minecraft server, or on an insecure website that got hacked. Theirs can't be.)

One of my colleagues sent you a ticket, though I'll be taking over as it's a store issue. Though please provide the details my colleague asked for.

It's not entirely a store issue. The account has been stolen. I have no access to it. The person used the gift on my account. Shortly after I received the email about purchasing a gift of one year it sent another email thanking me for renewing my subscription for a year. That was the last.email sent to me. When I went to login or said a user with that email could not be found.

Can we take this to the support ticket you set in? You should have a reply from one of my colleagues. Just reply to that email.

I'm really glad to hear one of these jerks was too dumb to take advantage of the security "feature" that when the contact email gets changed, no notification is sent to the old email. The vast majority of the time, they change your email first - because of that "feature", this both keeps you from resetting the password and keeps you from finding out until 1) your bank account is overdrawn, 2) you read the details of your bank statement and see the fraudulent charges, or 3) you try to log on to Crunchyroll and can't.

If you can't find the reply, are you able to tell me your original username?

I never set an original username. So from what I can tell It would have been [email protected] I used the same email that I'm using for this account. I didn't know I could set a username I signed up on my ps4

If that turns out to be the case, expect this thread to disappear soon.

They'll want to change the email on your main account back to the original email, which is sensible. What's less sensible is that they "have" to delete the account you're posting from (as opposed to using another email for it).

Then strangely, another "policy" is that they "have" to delete any threads started by an account that has been deleted - even if the thread follows all of the rules, and other people have posted it. Because reasons*.

* - Which have absolutely nothing to do with hiding how frequently hack victims have to come to the forums to get timely help in stopping an intruder from making more charges in the store. If that were known, people might erroneously question the official CR version that other websites can be hacked, or people can be phished, but it's literally never ever ever because CR's website could have been hacked. In fact, they're so sure of that, they don't even need to check.

Ah. If that's the case, it would seem likely that he hadn't set a username or email yet, since 1) other people have previously posted saying they didn't think they had or could set those using console apps, and 2) this thread and his account still exist.

The mods found and terminated the old account. They also refunded me all the money since it was fraudulent activity. So I'm happy. Thanks guys for the help.
