And it's time to get the case underway. That's something Phoenix won't say Objection to.

Episode 1

Naruhodo is just a rookie, but he's already taking on a homicide case because a friend is wrongly accused to be the killer. Yahari made the statue believed to be the murder weapon and he was just dumped by the victim. The witness paints a really compelling picture that Yahari is the killer, but with an Objection, Naruhodo figures out that the time was off as the death was at 4pm, but the witness was there at 2pm, and that there's no way the witness knew that was a clock without going in. So after his famous Objection stance, Naruhodo figures out that the clock was two hours off because it was purchased in NYC, which is 14 hours behind, thus two hours off when disregarding AM and PM,, and thus he proved that Yamano was the killer. That was a pretty solid way to begin this and the case was certainly entertaining. Not bad for something adapted from a VG.

I thought it was great. Pretty close to the game! It was very funny and well animated.Captured everything we love about Phoenix and so excited for the rest of the series ^_^

Also I maybe the only person that didn't hate the OP theme xD

E1

Despite the low budget and 3D objects, it was not a bad episode at all, and certainly retained the gaming elements of the source for dynamism. The show does seem to lack in situational gravity, as I felt the death was shrugged off by the boyfriend, but then the series was always focussed on the court cases I suppose.

I enjoyed following the logic, and it was nice that his Chief gave him a helping hand, as to show that he is indeed just a rookie.

Hoping for future cases to give the audience that haven't played the game some chances to think.
And I can't take those names seriously - Naruhodo and Yahari?

I never played the game but I see some gameplay on youtube.

I just could not get my head to get use to having Kaji voice as the main character. It just doesnt fit his stature.
And whats up with the intro music.

Episode 1

One Word: Objection!

The music and court scenes are giving me exciting vibes I felt when I first played the game. The music is also factoring in that too! I still wonder how they are going to adapt the game. It's pretty extensive from what I remember, so i'm sure they can't cover everything, but we'll see where A-1 goes with it.

Next time is Turnabout sisters!

Just as a heads up, there's an alternative subtitle track that will use the English names. Just right-click to change the track and Phoenix Wright will appear where Ryuichi Naruhodo would appear, etc. It's great that CR is giving us a choice to determine if we want to watch this using the original names or the localized version.

As a fan of the games, this first episode was pretty meh, but then again, so is the first case in Ace Attorney. It works well as a tutorial, not so much as a story intro.

If I had to pick something I'd consider a flaw, the art style is a pretty low-budget, but given that it's a video game / VN adaptation, it could be MUCH worse.

The series, like the game, seems to be cheesy and fun. I enjoyed it. I am tired of hearing Yuuki Kaji sounding the same in everything but I can deal.

As far as adaptations go, this one feels a little too safe, but it's still a rather fun watch.

Pretty neat that CR is giving an option to get subtitles with the names that the franchise's fans are used to.

Man, that was pretty bad. I mean there's adapting a game and then there's copying it verbatim to the point where it looks like you just badly traced the game sprites and added a voice over. I'm not expecting Attack on Titan level art here but when the show looks worse than the games there's a problem. -.-

Episode 1: The First Turnabout

First off, good on CR for giving people the option for the English names. At first I was like who is Naruhodo (I haven't played the games only heard of it and saw clips)

Second, I thought it was off it a good start. I was able to follow the case well and look for the contradictions. Plus it was pretty entertaining to see all of it go down.

It does look low budget but the presentation wasn't that bad. It felt like a legit case even if the defendant and witness were overacting a bit. Honestly wanted him to say Objection in English.

So far not too bad, decent start, but my god that ED is beautiful. Looking forward to the next case

Is there a way to access the alternate subtitle track through the Crunchyroll apps, or is it a web only option? I was hoping to watch this on my PS4...

Seeing as I've never played any Phoenix Wright games, I'm perfectly fine with the Japanese names. As budget as this show appears, it does look like it will still be rather enjoyable. My biggest gripe, though, is the court etiquette. Or lack thereof. But seeing as it's anime, I haven't played the games, and Japanese courts are hardly my area of expertise, I let it slide. I reckon there'll be interesting enough cases and court "action" to make this at the very least a decent anime.

I wasn't expecting to really like this show, and I was right. I'm not a player of the game but I did find the game-look amusing. Thing I hate the most about these kinds of things is sitting there saying things like
for many many minutes before the show's problem-solver does. Some perfectly lovely people have an appreciation for that kind of simplicity and cheesiness I guess, but I'm not that kind of people.

However, I did quite like Naruhodo and Yahari's hair. Probably not enough to keep watching unless I manage to have excess time and feel the urge for something super simple to watch.
